Sun-Protective Playwear by Little Leaves #product #review

As mothers we have an intense desire to protect our children in all areas of their lives, and when we learn of a product that will assist with that then we’re gung-ho to try it. That’s why when I heard about Little Leaves Sun-Protective Playwear I had to check out it myself.

The below referenced product was provided by Little Leaves to facilitate this review. As always opinions expressed are my own. For more information review my complete disclosure policy.

The playwear, which blocks 99 percent of skin-cancer causing UV radiation, was developed by a dermatologist and a pediatrician, doctors Carlos and Carley Gomez-Meade. The material is soft to the touch, made of hypoallergenic bamboo fabric resulting in a breathable, lightweight, odor-blocking and moisture-wicking item. With the knowledge that chronic sun exposure and sunburns are directly linked to the development of skin cancer, it seemed a smart choice to give this product a try.

CAM01054~2My son’s favorite color is green and since he’s in the pre-teen stage I chose the shark design for him. I explained to him the benefits of the shirt and asked him to wear it on a very sunny and hot day when he had to ride his razor ride-on toy to take the trash out. Andre’s first response when he returned from doing his chore, “Whew, it’s so hot out there.”

“How do you feel,” I said, “did the shirt help?”

He thought for a moment and answered in the affirmative. He said that although he was sweaty the shirt helped him to feel a little cooler. Even with the intense 90-degree sun the shirt picked up the faint breeze. As a matter of fact, he cooled down much quicker than his sisters did who accompanied him on his ride to the dumpster. His overall review: Two thumbs up.

#TLCVoxBox is filled with goodies – #product review

I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that I’ve gotten a bit behind on writing and reviews. If you’re new here then I’ll direct you to my first Cancer Journal entry, and this link directs you to a post that I think gives a good idea about my health. Right now let’s talk about the TLC VoxBox.

#TLCVoxBox 2I received the following products from Influenster for testing purposes. However, any opinions expressed here are my own. Please review my complete disclosure policy for more details.

I was pleased as soon as I opened the TLC VoxBox and saw its contents: Neosporin® Neo To Go, a coupon for a free galloon of Breyers® Gelato Indulgences™, one bar of Ivory Bar Soap, AVON Anew Reversalist Express Wrinkle Smoother, Puffs To Go single pack and a Shell Fuel Rewards Network Card.

Thus far, I’ve tested the Neo To Go (#NeoReady), Puffs To Go (#PassthePuffs) and, of course, the new Breyers Gelato Indulgences (#GelatoLove). The Puffs To Go packs a big puffy punch – the pack is perfect to carry in my purse or leave in the car, but to me the best part is how soft the tissues are. They’re ideal whether you’re using them to blow your nose or wipe lipstick off of your chin. At just 49 cents per single pack they’re also the best frugal choice.

#Topricin, homeopathic cream wins the fight against pain

With the advancement of the stinky little cancer cells messing around in my body, a lot of my fibromyalgia-induced chronic pain has been aggravated. I have been doing my best to increase the natural foods and remedies I use that’s why when I received information about Topricin, the homeopathic treatment for fibromyalgia, I wanted to test it right away.

Thanks to samples I received via media relations at Topricin company, Topical Biomedics. That being said, I’m still going to provide you with my honest opinion about this homeopathic cream that can change the way we, chronic pain suffers, deal with pain on a daily basis.

topricinMy honest opinion? I am sold on the product. I started using Topricin about four weeks ago and I began noticing a difference within a week, as their material states. The tingling in my feet and fingers along with the swelling of my ankles and pain in various areas was relieved by applying Topricin two times a day at minimum.

As a matter of fact, I just ordered a bottle of the cream because I depleted the samples that were sent to me for the purpose of this review. I will definitely add Topricin to my daily regimen… It just dawned on me the reason why I’ve been in more pain lately is because I haven’t had the cream for quite a few days. See how that works? Pain, use Topricin, less pain. Sounds like a winner, right?

One of the things I like most is that it’s safe for the entire family. My middle daughter Amareah had a really sore knee after a bad fall. The sore had already healed and she told me her knee really hurt. I hope I didn’t show too much excitement at the chance to use Topricin Junior on one of my children. I massaged the cream into her knee as instructed being sure to cover the back of the knee and about two inches up and down. Then added a final layer, which I rubbed in as well. The cream worked immediately on her. You should have seen the surprised look on her face. Although you’re supposed to apply it at least two times a day for at least a week to see results, she had a different experience. Immediate relief.

Topricin Pain Relief and Healing Cream screen

Topricin Junior provides a blend of natural medicines that correctly address the unique pain issues of children and does so without the use of parabens, menthol, petroleum, camphor and anything other harmful chemical. There’s also Topricin Foot Therapy Cream that’s perfect and safe for diabetics. While it soothes the burning nerve pain in the feet, it treats dry cracking skin. It’s great for anyone suffering from overworked, sore, dry or pained feet.

Topricin was developed by ex-Marine Lou Paradise who is the president and chief of research at Topical BioMedics, a company he founded in 1994. Prior to founding his company, Lou was suffering from severe bilateral Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and knew surgery or medication was not the answer. With a background in physiology and natural medicine, Lou added the knowledge of traditional natural medicines such as acupuncture, homeopathy and herbal medicines while spending time in Hong Kong.

When Lou’s CTS was at its worst he tried using oral herbal medicines and single ingredient homeopathic medicines neither of which had much effect. He then thought a combination of homeopathic medicines delivered in a cream base and applied directly to the site of pain might be the answer. And it was.

  • Topricin Pain Relief and Healing Cream is specially formulated for adult injuries and pains including arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, joint pain, trauma injuries, shoulder and back pain, and muscle cramps.
  • Topricin Junior is formulated for children’s injuries: bumps, bruises, bug bites, leg cramps, muscle spasms, growing pains, sports and falling injuries, minor burns, strains, sprains, skin irritations, and neck and shoulder pain.
  • The Foot Therapy Cream is formulated for foot and ankle pain including nerve pain, heel spurs, bunions, gout, sports injuries, plantar fasciitis, sprains and shin splints.

If you suffer from chronic pain, what do you have to lose in giving this a try? I’ve decided the anything that assists in my being pain free is worth the investment.

If you’re interested… Here is a link to purchase Topricin from Amazon. I am an Amazon affiliate, which means if you click my link I will receive a small amount of monetary compensation.

Tone to Christian tunes #product #review

It is pretty accurate to say I’m not a fan of working out right now. There’s the laziness (fueled by chronic pain and medications), the unwillingness to believe I have to do so much more than in the past to lose weight (seriously, why aren’t healthier food choices fueling change?), and… well,  I have really been feeling horrible.

Those thoughts rattled around my brain while I was getting up the energy and desire to review In The Beginning, a Shazzy Fitness DVD. I didn’t know what to expect when I popped the disc in, but I had to give Shazzy a try.

2014-01-19 21.51.38From the back of the DVD case:

Shazzy Fitness is the revolutionary inspirational hip-hop dance fitness program designed to complement the busy lifestyle of today’s Christian.

You’ll have a blast as our expert choreographers – Apollo, Leslie and Vera – lead you through a beginner-level, easy to follow dance party that exercises your body and uplifts your spirit.

There were a couple of things that caught my attention when the DVD began including the tagline “Shape What the Father Gave You.™” Clever, right? Then the Shazzy team introduces themselves and the main menu appears where easy-to-follow, verbal instructions are given.

Those who are quick to pick up moves and dancing will have a much easier time catching on than folks like me who need each move repeated a couple of times before moving on to the next. The routine picks up from the first beat, repeats a couple of times before it’s time for the next song. Thus far, I think the chosen Christian music is a winner. Although I’m not really a fan of  lyrics while working out I did notice some of the song lyrics played smoothly in the background. The hip hop steps definitely incorporate moves to target key areas of the body so you’ll be dancing and having fun while toning.

Check out Shazzy Fitness on YouTube:

One of you – my lucky readers – will have a chance to get your hands on a  DVD, thanks to 2014-01-19 21.52.24Shazzy Fitness. I’ve been alluding to an upcoming giveaway for quite some time. Well, Shazzy has provided their DVD A Time to Dance as part of the giveaway. I’m going to post the review within the next two to three weeks so stay tuned.

Dr. Scholl’s For Her Comfort Insoles can save your weary tootsies

Last year I bought a pair of Valquira Laced boots for just $27. Those boots are cute, stylish, warm and relatively comfortable. I say “relatively” because the padding inside one of the boots was not in the correct place and the nail/screw/whatever that holds the heel in place dug into my heel through the thin layer under my foot.

C360_2013-11-13-00-15-25-139Double socks and cheap inserts did nothing for this spot – regardless of what I did I would still be in pain by the end of the day. That was totally unacceptable. That’s why when I received a complimentary pair of Dr. Scholl's® For Her Comfort Insoles, from Influenster in the #RoseVoxBox, I was extremely excited.

C360_2013-11-13-00-16-00-690With the temperatures dropping to the 20s tonight, high of low 40s tomorrow with continued gusty winds and my heat kicking in tens times more frequently than yesterday, it’s time to get my boots ready.

Just taking the insoles out of the package is a treat in soft comfort. The insoles are touted as providing all-day comfort and support in addition to keeping your feet warm. They have a multiple layer design that insulates against cold and dampness. They also have two plush layers for extra cushioning and support while keeping feet dry by absorbing perspiration. You can put the cut-to-fit insoles in a variety of favorite shoes and boots including rain and winter boots, casual and dress boots and shoes.

C360_2013-11-13-00-17-00-094Dr. Scholl’s® For Her™ Cozy Cushions™ Insoles are available in women’s sizes 6 to 10 and are easily cut to fit the size you wear – simply follow the lines provided on the back of the insole.

I was in a rush this morning when I grabbed the insoles to put in my boots and I thought they would be hard to cut. They weren’t at all especially compared to another pair of insoles I’ve used that I had to get my utility scissors for.

One suggestion I would make is to leave an extra size before you cut to your exact size and insert it into your shoe or boot to see how it feels. I cut mine to my exact size and inside of my boots I could feel about a quarter inch or so of my first two toes “hanging” over the edge. It’s a bit annoying and I’m going to see if I can slide the insole further into my boot the next time I put them on.

The only negative, if I can even call it that, is my boots fit very snuggly around the top of my feet from the arch to the toes. Having the insoles inserted caused from the bunion side of each foot to the outer edge under my pinky toe to be too tight. I love how walking with the Cozy Cushion made my feet feel absolutely wonderful so I’m going to have the top parts of the boots stretched. They needed to be stretched a little in that area anyway. Oh, and my problem with the nail poking in my heel – NONEXISTENT. I don’t feel it at all. How’s that for comfort?

Overall I give this Dr. Scholl’s product an A+ for comfort. Give them a try, if you haven’t already, so you can see how it feels to walk on total softness.gray boots

Easy preparation, quick clean up with MAGGI SO JUICY

Disclaimer: I received a complementary product from BzzAgent for the purpose of this review. This in no way affects my opinions of products I share here. Here’s a link to my complete disclosure policy.

I am all for anything that makes preparing meals easy, quick and a cinch to clean up. That’s what I found with MAGGI SO JUICY that’s best described as a small packet with big seasoning flavor and an oven bag.

There are three easy steps to using MAGGI SO JUICY:

  1. Sprinkle the seasoning mix into the oven-safe bag.
  2. Coat the chicken by shaking it within the bag.
  3. Cook, serve and eat.

2013-10-16 18.38.30

Out of the four flavors available – Garlic & Tomato, Italian Countryside, Mediterranean Herb Medley and Tomato & Paprika – I think the Mediterranean Herb Medley is my favorite. The first time I prepared the meal with MAGGI’S Italian Countryside using chicken wings. They turned out moist, tender and lightly flavored. My children loved the taste, but the seasoning could have been a little stronger for me.

2013-10-16 19.37.55

Looks yummy, right?

The second time I used the Mediterranean Herb Medley on deboned tilapia, and it was the best fish I’ve tasted in quite some time. Restaurant worthy if you ask me. The only difference with the fish is that it may not turn out quite as pretty as you would like because of the shaking and trying to get it laid out in the bag. My suggestion, should you go this route, would be to use thicker cut or meatier types of fish.

And, lastly, I’ve tried Savory Garlic & Tomato with boneless, skinless chicken breast. These photos give you an idea of the steps involved.

2013-10-17 11.30.37I can’t wait try MAGGI again because you can add more than just your meat into the oven bag. I want to try potatoes and spinach with chicken or rice with a little of cream of mushroom soap and the chicken. Does that sound as good to you as it does to me? Definitely comfort food.

You can find MAGGI SO JUICY at your local Kroger-owned store for just $1.79. If you have already tried, leave me a comment letting me know what you think. If you haven’t tried, what are you waiting for? Grab a packet, or two, today and test it out. In the meantime you can visit their site for recipe ideas.

Surprised by the #RealCheese in Annie’s mac & cheese

Disclaimer: I received the product described below for free from Influenster. However, free or not, my opinions are – and will always be – my own. Here’s a link to my complete disclosure policy.

There is one thing I don’t do and that’s eat macaroni and cheese out of box or in a microwave thingy… or anything like that. You can blame that on Patti LaBelle. You see, she has a couple of recipe books and one of them has a recipe for the best macaroni cheese on earth.

No, I’m not exaggerating. Since the first time I made it my daughter, now 22, makes it at least twice per year.  Each time it gets better and better – if that’s possible.

Annie's cheeseSo I was not optimistic about tasting the sample of Annie’s Homegrown Macaroni & Cheese Microwavable Cup that Influenster so kindly sent me. I nuked it (really easy-to-follow directions) one afternoon for a late lunch. I had planned on taking a picture of me tasting it, but after one bite I discovered how extremely yummy it is. I ate it so fast that I didn’t know it was gone ‘til I looked down into the cup. Imagine my disappointment. (You’re not laughing at me, are you?)

Well, you may laugh at the infographic included here. Take a gander and tell me in the comments section “What does your real cheese say about you?”

Check out Annie’s Homegrown on Facebook and, seriously, go right away and get some for yourself.

I received Fysiko Eyelash Growth Serum from Influenster to facilitate this review. No compensation was received and all opinions expressed are my own.Disclosure policy.

My journey to longer lashes began on May 16th when I first told you about Fysiko Eyelash Growth Serum. Let’s see the final results:

2013-05-08 00.41.59

2013-08-07 08.55.30
I have quite a bit of difficulty taking a picture of my eyes, but I tried to crop and get as close and clear as I could. As you can see I have very short eyelashes and although I speculated in the second post about Fysiko that my eyelashes looked a little bit longer I don’t see much difference at all. Maybe a millimeter on the outer lash... What do you think?

I’d also like to note that I during this test period I used the product twice a day 90 percent of the time and I also applied it to my bottom lid (they don’t recommend this). Regarding the bottom lid I did notice some thickness there because I have a bald spot. From your perspective it’s about a pinky nail in from the left right after the first thickest part of the lashes.

Having been an Influenster, I noticed quite a few of the other product reviewers experienced great (and noticeable!) results. I’m not sure if it’s body chemistry, amount of product used or something else. Would I recommend the product? Probably, but only because results are different for most people.

That, dear reader, is my current quest for long lashes. My previous quest was with Neulash; please take a moment to read that as well. I will continue using the product for as long as I have some because I want to get maximum benefit to see if that makes a different.

Tell me, do you use any lash growth serums?

Strum away with a new guitar inlay

Fall and the beginning of the school year bring with it events and activities that, for some, were put on hold or that were a little lax during the summer months. Young and old musicians alike are picking up their instruments to rekindle desires and meet the grade for competitions and performances.

Some of those magicians strum a guitar like nobody’s business and take great pride in their ability to play the instrument as well as the techniques and visual appearance of said instrument. To add a little extra happiness to their playing they can turn to VanWhy Inlay & Design, a company that specializes in custom inlays and luthier services.

2013 VanWhy Inlay & Design

They are the perfect company to turn to for custom guitar inlays. VanWhy is a Pennsylvania-based company that can create an inlay from any material the customer can think of: pearl, shell, exotic woods, metals and stone. They offer affordable pricing with ideal turnaround times, and they understand the importance and will execute a custom inlay worthy of display. Fysiko Eyelash Growth Serum #longlashes update {product review}

I received Fysiko Eyelash Growth Serum from Influenster to facilitate this review. No compensation was received and all opinions expressed are my own. Disclosure policy.

On May 16th I shared with you that I started using Fysiko Eyelash Growth Serum to see if it performs as it  promotes it should. I always jump at the chance to try eyelash growth products because I have very sparse lashes and I’m not a fan of applying mascara everyday.

The serum is easy to apply, but the plastic part of the applicator is a bit too thick and sometimes scratches my eyelid as I’m applying it. When I first started using it there was a plastic piece sticking out, which I thought was the problem, so I snipped it off. That makes a small difference, but for the most part you can only touch your lid with the tip of the liquid eyeliner-like applicator.

As far as its ability to thicken and lengthen lashes, I have not seen much of a difference compared to other lash growth serums. This is what my lashes looked like when I first began using it:

2013-05-08 00.41.59

2013-05-08 00.42.38

This what my lashes look like NOW:

2013-06-02 14.36.422013-06-02 14.37.07

Upon first glance it looked like my lashes are a bit longer – comparing the bottom right picture to the top left – but when comparing the other two pictures they look the same. What do you think?

Overall I don’t see the marked improvement I saw when trying other products. I have a few weeks ago before the test period is over so I’ll update you again next month and let you be the judge.

Get boat supplies from a leading source

Introducing Fysiko Eyelash Growth Serum {product review}

To please FTC I’m letting you know I received product to test and facilitate this review. No compensation was received. This post may contain advertisement or affiliate links.

I’m not one of those ladies who has to have makeup on  or my eyebrows perfectly shaped all the time because I normally prefer to be an all natural woman. There is, however, one part of my face that I wish was more enhanced. I would love to have long lashes without falsies or mascara – long and lush would be even better.

I know it’s possible ‘cause I’ve seen other ladies with glorious lashes and even some men whose eyes are framed with beautiful, little fans of hair. My eyes go all doe-like as I stare at their eyes – mostly likely looking a little stalker like. That’s why when I learned about Fysiko Eyelash Growth Serum from Influenster I readily signed up to test it.

2013-05-08 00.39.59It’s easy to apply – just stroke it along your lash line like you would eyeliner and wait for about 15 minutes before applying any makeup. It’s that simple. I set my alarm to remind me to apply it daily and I’m closely watching for any changes. Over the next couple of months I’ll update you on the progress.

Here are my before pictures (ignore the eyebrows and the dark circles). These were taken before I started using the serum.

2013-05-08 00.41.592013-05-08 00.42.38

With Fysiko, I’m hoping to take my lashes to the next level and I’ll be able to see how it compares to Neulash, a product I reviewed some time ago.

Barn door hardware for design or practicality

What comes to mind when you think of barn door hardware? You may automatically think of materials farmers, ranchers and the like who need to keep their barn and barn doors in good repair. You probably don't know that those items are also a part of a quickly growing design trend with homeowners and interior designers who are incorporating a look that has become an impressive and stylish choice.

Whether the hardware is used to repair a barn door where livestock and machinery are housed or for a design element in someone's home, there are details that need to be decided on. Barn door hardware comes in different styles, finishes and with a variety of door pulls. The styles include ultra modern, nylon, industrial and modern with a wooden wheel. The different finishes are stainless steel, copper patina, warehouse bronze, rust, oil-rubbed bronze, green patina and brushed steel. barn door hardwareThose are the finishes designers would normally choose and there are also the standard finishes of raw steel, dark bronze and flat black, typically for standard uses. Use Shutters To Protect Your Home, Valuables And Loved Ones

Three weeks ago a hail storm suddenly hit the southern state and city where I live. At first, the popping and banging noises were faint, unrecognizable, and then abruptly the sky opened as thousands of egg-sized balls of ice hit all at once. The damage caused dents in hoods, shattered windows on both our cars, and homes were damaged as well as trees knocked over as a result of the fierce winds and persistent rains. Since then there have been reports of pending storms and hurricanes, so people are making advance preparations in an effort to protect themselves and their homes from the onslaught.

Some are choosing hurricane shutters while others have decided on storm shutters or security alternatives. The addition of these shutters makes protecting windows easier. According to Alutech United, instead of relying on plywood that has to be repeatedly installed, shutters offer added security with extra benefits, and there is an extremely low probability that they will have to be replaced after a storm. As mentioned, there are also choices of security shutters. In addition to protecting homes from storms, these shutters assist in deterring burglars and conserving energy. They provide a solid barrier between loved ones and the valuables within their homes from anyone outside the home attempting to get in or cause damage.

That barrier also acts as a shade and keeps the internal temperature from getting too high or falling too low. It is definitely something plywood cannot do. In order to find out more information on how to protect your home, valuables and loved ones, visit the site. In addition to finding information about storm and hurricane shutters, the site has information about security grill designs, roller shutters as well as how their products will reduce noise reduction, increase privacy and offer sun protection. Instead of putting a continual strain on your budget every time a storm approaches, consider a one-time investment in shutters. They will save you money, time and resources!

Kitchen organization: Use in-drawer knife block

Nowadays counter space is premium real estate. There are the regularly used small appliances including the coffeemaker, toaster and blender then there are the items you want to keep at-the-ready, but not necessarily on display. Sometimes putting those items in a drawer does not work because they are difficult to organize or because there are safety concerns. Such can be the case with cutlery, especially knives. I actually have this exact problem. knifedockI inherited a extensive set of knives from my grandmother who was a fabulous cook, but I do not like the idea of a knife block on my counter for a couple of reasons: 1) I think they're unattractive, and, 2) I don't think it's a good idea to have knives visible like that with young children in the home. This is where KnifeDock comes in.  The KnifeDock in-drawer knife block is an all-inclusive storage solution that is placed inside of a drawer where it can accommodate a variety of knife sizes. It is part of the company's patent pending SlabStab™, which is very attractive and polished looking with layers of flexible dividers made of a combination of food-safe cork and rubber, and that fit nice and snug into the kitchen drawers. The KnifeDock storage solution fits in standard kitchen drawers, minimizes accidents by keeping blades secure, and makes finding the right knife quick and easy because a small portion of the blade is still visible. It is available in two sizes: original (6” x 15” x 2 1/2” high) and deluxe (13” x 15” x 2 1/2" high), which are sold for the reasonable prices of $29.99 and $48.99, respectively. You may have seen KnifeDock at Williams-Sonoma, The Container Store or Bed Bath & Beyond. The company encourages consumers to compare and then save by ordering from KnifeBlock. For more information regarding KnifeDock or to order some for your kitchen visit the site.

Furniture, jewelry boxes, music instruments – jazz ‘em up with custom inlays

Most of us have searched for a one-of-a-kind gift for a friend or loved one, and some of us have special items of our own that we’d like to add some personalized or additional details. That is where the idea on inlaying comes in.

Inlaying is commonly seen on custom guitars in the pickguards, headplates and finger boards, but it is by no means solely an art for guitars. For example, on a trip to the Bahamas  a good friend of mine discovered a wonderful globe inlayed with mother of pearl, sapphires, and a variety of other stones that represented the land masses.

If this sounds interesting to you then you’ll want to check out VanWhy Inlay and Design, which provides quality, custom inlay services. Aaron VanWhy can turn a jewelry box, a piece of furniture or, yes, even a guitar into a beautiful work of art. He can either work from your personal artwork or develop a design to suit your needs.

Has your interest been piqued? Find out more about the custom inlays by visiting their site and also take a few moments to visit and like them on Facebook. VanWhy Inlay & Design is your one-stop inlay shop.
