There were more than 4,395 entries in the Cozy Up to Fall giveaway. That's pretty exciting, right? One of the things being given away - in addition to the $50 Amazon.com gift card - was a case of Slammers. Slammers Snacks are sweet, all natural, superfood snacks that are designed to fuel kids with organic fruits and vegetables.
They're not only a healthy alternative to sugar-laden treats that are so readily available this time of year; they're also a great way to introduce children to mangoes, acai, yumberries, and pomegranates. They also serve as a great source of essential vitamins, and some flavors come packed with seven grams of protein.
It's difficult making sure everyone in the family is consuming the recommended allowance of fruits and veggies and this is a smart way to kill two birds with one stone. The deciding factor, I know, is whether your kids will like the taste. Well, I took it to the ultimate taste testers: Two of my children 9-year-old Anna and Amareah age 11 along with my 4-year-old granddaughter, Autumn. Okay, admittedly, I had to get my taste buds in on the action.
The flavors we were given to try:
- Epic - mangoes, bananas, carrots, orange, Greek yogurt and real vanilla
- Creamy Banana Chocolate - banana, coconut cream, grape, sweet potato and cocoa powder
- Pomegranate Grape Crush - grape, pomegranate, coconut, apple, banana and purple carrot
The two older girls tried Epic first and with high praise. They are fans of yogurt as well as the kind in the squeez-y tubes, which I don't buy by the way, so I wasn't surprised. Also, they really like mangoes and oranges. So, I had high hopes for Slammers Snacks. Another day, I had my granddaughter try Creamy Banana Chocolate and after the first sip, she had a very neutral expression. When I asked her if she liked it, she slowly nodded.
"Love Shakes? NEW Creamy Banana Chocolate, tastes like a rich creamy banana shake with a hint of cocoa, full of all the good things that you would expect from Slammers. Whey protein provides 7 grams of protein for growing bodies and sweet potatoes, adds the goodness of vegetables."As soon as I was distracted she put it down and didn't come back. When prodded if she wanted it she shook her head so I had the bright idea to try it myself. Picture this: mom sour face. I do not recommend the Creamy Banana Chocolate and neither do any of the children - the older girls tried it also to see what my face was about. Autumn also didn't like the Pomegranate Grape Crush (loaded with Vitamin C), and the two older girls thought it was just okay. When she finally had the chance to taste Epic she was sold.
Our final verdict:
Epic won hands down.
It is tasty and refreshing, and if you tend to sneak your kids' snacks you'll be doing your body a favor with this one. I suppose I like it because it's closer to a regular yogurt flavor.
You shouldn't make your final decision based on our results. To be fair to Slammers, I am not a fan of any type of yogurt that is squeezed or slurped nor do I like anything but pure fruit tastes. I also don't like chocolate in any form, but candy, cake, chocolate, cookies and the like. And they tend to have similar tastes to mine.
If my children are game, I'll definitely pick up one of the other flavors for them to try:
- Awesome - bananas, blueberries, strawberries, beets, acai, and amaranth.
- Chill'n - banana, blueberry, butternut squash, Greek yogurt and yumberry
- Pumped - bananas, mango, butternut squash, ancient grains and cinnamon
- Watermelon Kiwi Burst - strawberry, kiwi, watermelon, apple, banana and beet
That last one sounds really yummy, right? I'm even game to try Chill'n and Pumped, and if we do I'll definitely come back and share our opinions with you. There's one thing I do love about Slammers - hands down - and that's how healthy and pure these are. Like they say:
Fuel the fun with organic snacks packed with healthy fruits, vegetables, and vitamins. The perfect nutritious treat for children on the go.
