Petula Writes Facebook page is back #LikeMe

In December 2013 my multiple myeloma reared its ugly head again and I began the fight for my life. Even though I suffered, and continue to suffer, from chronic pain I could not have guessed how hard the fight would be. So much so that I had to discontinue quite a few things online; one of the things I stopped was my blog's Facebook page.

The Petula Writes Facebook Page

I'm very proud to announce that the page is up and running again. I don't have all the logistics laid out yet, but I am giving this some of my attention and hope that it pays off. My plan so far is to give you immediate knowledge of what's happening on the blog, links to other blogs and relevant information as well as pictures, tips and fun blogging news.

Now this is where you come in. Without my supportive readers I would just be writing to an empty space and that makes me very grateful for you. What I would like from you is to like Petula Writes on Facebook and share it with your friends. You can do that, right? You'll recognize the page right away because it features my profile picture and the banner is of my four beautiful children...about six years ago. (Lately, I've been enthralled with older pictures of my babies.)

Best of Petula Writes: Week One

If you've missed reading this past week this is the ideal time for you to catch up on what's been going on around here. Maybe you've been by and didn't get the chance to read everything. It doesn't really matter why you're here today because I'm over-the-top excited that you are here. So let's get started:

  • The story of me and writing - This post relays some quick information about why I first started writing, my writing experience and what I'm working on to get back into the groove of writing. I hope you enjoy this post as much as I enjoyed writing it. Seriously, I'm not just saying that.
  • Cancer Journal #8: When will life normalize? - My cancer journals started out as a way for me to express how I am feeling while going through treatment for cancer, but they turned into a lot more than that. Now that I'm home after getting a stem cell transplant I've been trying to get life back to normal. It's not as easy as it seems.
  • Finding focus: Writing about health and products - To some those two things may not go together, but as my tagline says - Aspiring author shares her writing, her reviews, her life - you can see that they fit right in with who I am and what I share. A lot of times I can't decide what I want to write or I get stuck when I'm trying to write so I've shared with you a few things that I do to find focus. Take a look then share in the comments what you do to help yourself refocus.
  • Choose me to read, to write, to sell - For the longest time I didn't understand how to brand myself; it was my blog that I was trying to brand. Thanks to something I recently read, I know I'm the selling point and not necessarily my blog. That means I'm asking you, my lovely readers, to hire me to edit for you, to read what I write and to buy what I sell, Or, at the very least, offer me your best advice on how to achieve those things.
  • Protect your lips for summer with Lip Drink #GIVEAWAY - Over the years I've become pretty discouraged when it comes to hosting a giveaway. However, I'm hopping on the bandwagon once again with a product I believe will soften and protect your lips while you're having fun outdoors. Give it a read, enter and share. Good luck!
  • What's a writer to do? 3 tips to deal with life's distractions - When I can get my mind right, I do these three quick and easy tips to help me refocus. I needed another reminder after the Finding Focus post. Read about what's distracting me.
  • It's pizza night ~ Red Baron Brick Oven #review - Tomorrow is Friday so this post is right on time. I have given my opinion of Red Baron's new brick oven pizza and asking you to do the same. Leave me a comment on your favorite pizza toppings or tell me if your family indulges in pizza night.
Now, take a peek at the posts (just click on the links above) and leave a few comments for me. When you're done, this window will still be open so pretty please come back here and leave me a comment about which post(s) you read and/or liked.

It's pizza night ~ Red Baron Brick Oven #review #GotItFree

I'm a BzzAgent and received a coupon for free Red Baron Brick Oven pizza I was able to try this for free.

Red Baron recently introduced their brick oven pizza, which is available in cheese trio, meat-trio®, pepperoni and sausage supreme. Here are some brief descriptions of the pizza from the Red Baron site:
  • Mouth-watering mozzarella, provolone and Parmesan cheeses on top of the unique Brick Oven crust, make RED BARON® Brick Oven Cheese Trio your perfect pizza.
  • The new, mouthwatering combination of pepperoni, ham and sausage makes RED BARON® Brick Oven MEAT TRIO® the ultimate meat lover's pizza.
  • New RED BARON® Brick Oven Pepperoni Pizza combines thick pepperoni and crispy, bubbly crust for the perfect blend of texture and flavor.
  • RED BARON® Brick Oven Sausage Supreme lives up to its name with high quality toppings like hand-pinched sausage with fennel, hearty green pepper slices, diced onions, robust sauce, and bubbly, crispy crust.
What do you think thus far? Sounds good for pizza night, right? And that's pretty much what it's about: a tasty pizza that's ready quickly for the family. Add salad, french fries, sweet corn or even soup and you have a complete, healthy meal. It's a matter of rounding up the crew for a dinner that not even the children will complain about; everyone will be happy to share their day or enjoy family time when their taste buds and tummies are feeling good. After a long day of taking care of everyone, working and however you spend your time, it's nice to not have to fret over dinner choices.

What's a writer to do? 3 tips to deal with life's distractions

Two days ago I was gung-ho about getting some posts written, working on my JewelScent project and piddling in some of my pretty papers, stickers, markers and the like for a little creative time. I even posted a giveaway (you entered, right?) and organized two more that I'm excited to get started.

Then everything went screwy after I hurt myself. You see, last Thursday I went bowling and we played two games. This is the first time I've done anything like this in more than three years. The last year has been spent being treated for and fighting multiple myeloma and prior to treatment I was feeling absolutely horrible.

Won't hurt anything to do a little bowling, right? So.wrong. It hurt my buttocks/glute area on the left, which was very sore and tender from putting all of my weight on that side when taking my turn. Before I continue let me give you a bit of necessary information: I have chronic pain in my left hip mainly due to residual pain because of a small lesion on the bones in my right hip, and I also have fibromyalgia.

I didn't make that big of a deal about the pain, but it didn't seem to be going away. On Sunday night I massaged the area (hip, thigh, buttocks and lower back) with Topricin really well and upon waking Monday I was amazed at how much better I felt. There was hardly any pain and I wasn't limping when I walked. Happily, I went about my day.

Protect your lips for summer with Lip Drink #GIVEAWAY

For about the past year or two I haven't been blogging as much as I had before I began treatment for multiple myeloma (learn more by reading my Cancer Journals), All of my time had been spent dealing with the effects of chemotherapy and taking care of myself. When I started blogging again regularly I decided I would no longer offer giveaways because the response to them... well, sucked.

A couple of days ago I was offered the opportunity to again review a product and host a giveaway from Skin1.com. I couldn't pass it up because every product I've received from this company has been A+. So, here I am again trying the giveaway thing. Enter, share and enjoy.

What you'll win...

Five readers will each receive a coupon code for jane iredale Lip Drink SPF 15, 0.14 oz ($15 value), which is slightly bigger than your average lip balm. (You'll be able to choose whether you want your coupon code mailed  to you on a pretty card from Skin1 or emailed to you.)

Choose me to read, to write, to sell

Recently I read a note on Instagram or Facebook that read something like: Why are we promoting the brands we're selling, i.e. MaryKay, Avon - and in my case - JewelScent? We need to act like Walmart promotional team; they do not advertise the brands they sell - they advertise themselves. Makes sense, right?

It was just the scenario I needed for an instantaneous understanding of branding. Don't get me wrong, I  have quite a bit to learn, but this is a good start. I've been listening to and reading about branding for quite sometime from some of long-time associates, but this is the first time it because clear to me.

In, hopefully, the-not-so-distant future my novel will be published along with my children's books and my eBooks and I want you to want to buy from me. You'll get to know a lot about me here, love my writing and what I'm about so when I offer you something for purchase you don't hesitate to support me for a couple of reasons:

  1. You trust my reviews of products and my writing in general.
  2. You want to support me. Period.

A lot of times when we make purchases it's because we trust the brand. Do you think you can trust me?

I have about 20 years of writing and editing experience and I have been reviewing or offering products for just about that long. I'm a trained journalist and if you've been around here for awhile you know that I am pretty open about my opinion and my life.

Since I don't have any books for sale yet I'm trying to make some cash to support by family by selling JewelScent candles. If you aren't in a position to purchase for yourself or for a gift for someone else, please take a moment to share this post with your friends and family. Or click the Trio Honor Candle ad in the right sidebar near the top, browse around my site and share. Please.

What's your business and how have you branded yourself? Do you have any easy-to-follow tips to share?

Do forget: Buy your candles, soaps, beads, body scrubs and wax tarts from me.
