I take my responsibility as a mommy pretty seriously and try to do my very best at the most important job that was given to me. And that includes ensuring my children are: properly educated, fed healthy foods, physically and mentally stimulated, having fun and receiving proper medical treatment.
(Below are two of my children – I sometimes call them ‘my twins’ – who I had to pull out of two different schools to take them to the dentist.)
One of the things I don’t like is that a lot of those things overlap. During the school year there are times when the children have to go to the doctor when school is in session. Now, of course, that’s necessary if they’re sick. But the times when it’s a simple medical checkup, a follow up, a visit to the dentist for a cleaning or anything else where I have the ability to schedule it then why can’t it be done during the weekend?
I know we’re busy, but there is enough going on during the school year than to have to squeeze doctor’s appointments into a school day. Not to mention my own appointments and happenings. What about if every pediatrician, ophthalmologist, and pediatric ENT, GI, cardiologist and everyone else in between chose one Saturday each month to have appointments?
That way children don’t miss instructional time and are still well taken care of health wise and parents don’t interrupt their day whether it’s a workday or something else. Of course everything has its positives and its negatives, but I believe this suggestion has positives that work for a group of people who feel the same way I do!
What do you think? Would you take advantage of Saturday appointments? Do you currently have a doctor who offers occasional weekend appointments?
