Where are the complaint forms?

I have a mini gripe to get off of my chest or I’m not going to survive. Due to personal reasons I have been going to the library to get on the Internet and try to get some work done. Although this is a great alternative when I want to do it, it’s not so great when it feels like I’m forced to do it.

image There are ups and downs about being at the library – just like there are ups and downs about working from home or in an office. One is opening up your sensitive material via your laptop  to hackers – someone has tapped into my Yahoo account and is sending random emails to all of my contacts - and the other is the distractions.

So far I’ve been to three different libraries. The library I choose for the day is dependent on errands, convenience and location. For instance, when I took the three younger kids to Miss Kellie’s house for the afterschool program yesterday, I went to a local library about 10 minutes from her house. The idea was to maximize on the time and get as much work done as possible; especially since I hadn’t been too productive that morning.

I sat down at a somewhat isolated table, powered up my laptop and worked my way through a maze of errors and such to get to the wireless Internet connection. Finally, a page says I have to enter my library card information to access the wireless connection.

WTH?!

This is my third library under the same library system and none of the other libraries required this. I searched my wallet even though I knew the card probably wasn’t there. Where was it? It was hanging on the key hook in my home. I changed keychains and haven’t had the chance to put all of the store discount tags, etc., on the new chain.

Although I was irritated, I re-packed my bag and carried my laptop to the circulation desk. I explained the situation and she said, “You’ll need your library card.”

“I left mine home. Is there anyway you can look it up?”

“No, I can issue you a new one for a $2 fee that will make the other one null and void.” She said this with a little attitude.

“So, there’s nothing you can do? You can’t look it up?”

“No.'”

I somewhat calmly grab my things and walk away saying, aloud, “Ooooookkaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!”

What I wanted to do was cuss her out. First of all, since when are librarians so unhelpful and without solutions. Secondly, I”m sure she had a library card she could have used to let me temporarily log in. They obviously can monitor it somehow so she could have monitored it or told me that she would not do it again.

image I was not around the corner from my house so it wasn’t feasible to just jump in the car and go get it. And, no, I didn’t have $2. Even if I did, that was a waste. I wanted to do was get a little work done. It pissed me off to not only waste my time, but to have such an unhelpful librarian. Oh, by the way, if you live near the Fayette County Public Library in Fayetteville, Georgia, I would say keep moving to another library. It’s nice on the inside and even on the outside, but that’s not the first time that I’ve experienced their subpar customer service, demeaning attitude and their basic lack of human compassion.

It took all of my energy to not use some choice words with this lady who didn’t apologize, offer any solutions or kind words. Now, I have a friend who wouldn’t want to hear this entire story and would say, “What’s the solution?” All I have to say today is: You can stick your solution right up your…

Support for drug treatment

I recently met someone who has been trying to convey to me how difficult it is dealing with someone who has a drug addiction. When this lady met her husband, he was already doing drugs (I assume) and it wasn’t until after he had a death in the family and the birth of their child together that caused the addiction to culminate into a real problem.

Some of the Drug Treatment Information she has shared with me I had no idea about. Right now her husband is in a halfway house of sorts under a several year program that is mapped out in a way that’s supposed to help the individuals and their families. There are strict rules they must follow while the work on rebuilding their lives and their relationships. My friend is in the process of deciding whether she wants to continue her marriage, but it’s definitely not an easy choice.

I don’t know what I would do if I were in that situation, but I do know that I would help my loved one get involved in a treatment facility like the Raleigh Durham Drug Rehab. Rehabilitation centers such as that one have trained and compassionate staff who are able to work with those in need. When it’s all said and done, support a person with a drug addiction is an ongoing process. It’s not something that can be done overnight – it’s a daily, life-changing event to recovery.

Eeewww… that’s a dead bird!

It’s a rainy, dreary day. Nice and dark. The perfect time to take a nap or lounge on the couch watching television. Instead I’m sitting at the library working. Why at the library? Well, that’s another story for another day… one that I hope to tell you has a happy ending.

An-t-way, I found a corner in this library that I like to inhabit, I can either watch others on the library computers or look out of the window into an unkept courtyard. Today, given my grumpiness, I’ve planted myself with face pointing toward the courtyard so I don’t attract any unwanted conversation or attention.

In the middle of a thought I glance at the sidewalk right outside the window. I see something gray, black and white. a pile of something that looks… like feathers. Feathers?! I notice the path of ants marching back and forth then I see the beak and little foot. Eeeewww, there’s a dead bird outside of the window. Less than five or six feet from me.

We’ve had some serious rain for about two days so he could have gotten confused and flew into the glass. Struck by lightening? Whatever happened to him he is definitely expired. I would take a picture to share, but I left my camera at home. Not that you would want to see it, but I need to share it with someone. I need to share the visual aspects of it.

I’ve already complained about the state of this courtyard to a friend of mine who lives near this library. Normally, I frequent a different library, but have been coming here ‘cause it’s close to her home and we often ride together.

Now I’m even more irritated by its appearance. Why, at a facility that utilizes inmates, is there an overgrown, eyesore of a courtyard? I guess I shouldn’t complain because I more than likely won’t do anything to make a difference.

Why? That’s a question that I’ll have to explore. Maybe I’ll inquire of the staff on my way as to why they don’t do something with that area.

For now I have to get back to work because I know I’m going to want to leave in enough time to get some lunch before I have to do afternoon carpooling.

What are you up to this morning?

Rated triple X {product review}

For Adults Only

It has been quite awhile since I viewed an adult movie and during the time I was watching them on a semi-regular basis I only saw one that had an interesting plot and exciting – pun intended – sex scenes. So when I choose to review an erotic DVD from EdenFantasys.com it took me quite awhile to decide.

image I finally settled on Erotic Visions by Ultimate Pictures. I thought it would be interesting because it is described as having 10 full-sex scenes and an original music CD soundtrack. (Yes, I know, I wasn’t watching it for the music.)

The first time I watched some of the first scene and a little of the second. The first scene, which involves a woman peeking in a window at a couple … uh, coupling, was almost immediately boring to me. That’s not to say that it wasn’t arousing. In fact, I was watching it with RP and he (would it be wrong to say “of course” here? LOL) was almost immediately aroused. We watched about 10 minutes of it before fast forwarding to the next scene, which – by the way – gave me the creeps. I guess weird erotica scenes involving plastic (or was it leather?) walls where black leather-gloved hands reach through and fondle a person aren’t my thing. Before much of that scene had passed I decided to give into the arousing “benefits” of the first scene and take a commercial break with RP.

The second time I watched it alone and took a little peek at a threesome – two women and one man. That scene was definitely more engaging and arousing then the two scenes I’d viewed before. Not because of two women being in the scene – excuse me while I clear my throat – but because it was more fast paced. I was definitely pleased with my physical response to that scene… that’s all I’m going to say about that.

Regarding the original soundtrack: I’m not impressed. I wish there were an option to mute out the music and keep the voices and sounds.

Overall: I’ll eventually watch more of the DVD because I do enjoy making that apart of my methods to spice things up a little, but it’s not on my list of favorites. I’ll be going back to the drawing board as far as adult movies are concerned, and I’ll let you know if I find one that I really enjoy.

Success at washing a 3 year old’s hair

It has taken me three years to figure out a way to get Anna’s hair washed without a lot of drama. She’ll do good with her big sister or her daycare provider, Miss Kellie, but she likes to give me a hard time.

The other day I needed to wash her hair, but didn’t have time or energy to put her in the tub so I decided to wash her hair at the kitchen sink. I knew it wouldn’t work to have her stand at the sink on a stool so this is what I did…

DSCF5249 DSCF5250 DSCF5251 DSCF5252

Needless to say, she thought it was the funniest thing to do. I’m so glad it went quickly and she enjoyed herself. It was even fun for me especially when I said I was going to take her picture and she started clowning around.

Moving cross country

There’s a lady I know who takes every opportunity she can get to improve her and her son’s situation. If that means moving cross country then, so be it, she’ll pack up quickly and be on her way. Even though that’s a lot of work she’s able to get it done and then are services available that can assist with something like that.

U-Pack Moving has an economical solution. Those needing to move pack their own things and the professionals at U-Pack do the driving. It’s an ideal alternative to renting a moving truck.

What about you? Have you ever had to make a major move in your life?

Have you checked out the Publix Deli Kid’s Meals?

I bet you can guess what I’m buzzing about today… Yup, the Publix Deli Kid’s Meals. When I first heard about these from BzzAgent.com – I’m a BzzAgent – I couldn’t wait to try them because I often buy similar snack/lunch kits for my children to eat on a rushed night, to take to school for lunch or for weekend lunchtimes.

The other day while I was at my favorite Publix, I looked for them but couldn’t find them. When the cashier asked me if I had found everything I was looking for I mentioned that I didn’t find them and she had someone go behind the deli counter to get some. Seems as if they run out pretty quickly or don’t make that many at a time.

Tonight, after a long day, I looked in the fridge and suddenly didn’t feel like preparing dinner. I asked the kids, while holding one of the Publix Deli Kid’s Meals in my hand, if they wanted it for dinner. Luckily, the decision was unanimous. I had bought two with chicken tenders and one with oven-roasted turkey.

DSCF5257 The chicken tenders (two) come on honey wheat rolls and came with Yo-Kids Yogurt, Publix Snack Carrots, and an Apple and Eve Berry-Berry Fruitable Juice. The oven-roasted turkey was also on a honey wheat roll and came with apple slices (Amareah – left - gobbled up her sandwich. Anna, pictured below, is really enjoying that apple.) and grape pack, Craisins and Horizon Organic 2% Milk.

DSCF5256 The best thing about the Publix kids meal is that it is healthy, balanced and affordable at just $3.99. It was the perfect size for my 3, 5 and 6-year-old children and they enjoyed it. (They also have other choices including peanut butter on wheat roll and a peanut butter and green apple wrap.)

DSCF5262 I asked my children if they liked them and my son said, “Terrific.” (I think I caught him by surprise when I snapped this picture!) The girls nodded in agreement. Amareah, the 5 year old, said she liked the turkey sandwich better than the tenders (she tasted both), Andre really enjoyed the Craisins, and the apple slices and grape pack (well, just two grapes. Ah-hem) were a hit as well. The kid’s meals are made fresh and preservative free, which is a definite plus where parents are concerned.

Have you tried the Publix Deli Kids Meals? If so, what did you think? If not, do you plan on trying them?

Disclosure: I received coupons from BzzAgent.com, of which I am a member, to purchase the Publix Deli Kid’s Meals for the purpose of sharing information about them with my friends and family. The opinions expressed here are my own and are in no way influenced by BzzAgent or Publix. More information can be found in my complete disclosure policy.

Beautifying your home with tile

tile As I think about improvements I would like to make on my home, I consider some of the “fancy” things I would like to include like tiles. I’ve watched home improvement shows and seen how they’ve changed a drab bathroom into a work of art by installing bathroom tiles. Can you imagine having the threshold between your hallway or bedroom and bathroom be adorned with Mother of Pearl tiles? What about your shower stall? I’ve seen that done on a couple of home shows and I was so enthralled by the detail and beauty of it. There are some beautiful choices at GlassTileStore.com and I am amazed at the different colors and textures available.

The Glass Tile Store has glass, glass and stone, and glass and metal tiles as well as marble mosaics, stone mosaic patters and Roman glass tiles. There’s metal, pearl shell and large glass tiles as well as cobblestone mosaics, borders, liners and deco’s. If you can imagine it, they probably have it.

Those considering improving upon their homes will find fabulous choices and comparable prices to make their kitchen or bathroom eye catching and beautiful. If you’re not into the small tiles, like the Mother of Pearl pictured here, you can always try the spa glass or subway tiles, which lend a unique and stylish appearance to any area in your home.

The sweetest ‘Cherry on Top’

This is my second award within seven days! Now you know I’m feeling pretty darn special. :-) My friend Melissa, the lovely blogger of Frugal Creativity, gave me this Cherry on Top award.

image

Isn’t it just darling? I’m especially in love with this award because I’ve never seen it before and it’s such a beautiful and sweet sentiment. Thanks Melissa for thinking of me and for giving me such a wonderful compliment.

Okay, so here are the "Cherry on Top" Award rules:

  1. Answer this question: If you had the chance to go back and change one thing in your life, would you and what would it be?
  2. Pick 6 people and give them this award. You then have to inform the person that they have gotten this award.

That’s a tough question especially since I try to live my life with a no regrets type of attitude. There are several things that come to mind, but I think my true answer is a version of something that I normally say. Instead of saying I wish I had never met my ex-husband; here’s the truth: If I could go back and change one thing in my life it would be not to lose myself in my marriage. I would not sign my name to any business ideas that needed financing, loan applications, new checking accounts, credit cards or give up my retirement money, savings or jeopardize my credit. I would say no, ignore the nagging and remain true to myself regardless of the consequences.

Yup, that’s it!

The people I choose for this award are:

Jo at Life’s Perfect Pictures.

Jacqueline at Blessings Abound Mommy

Carrie at Little Miss Hannah

Chocolate Covered Daydreams

Christi at The Williams Family

Colleen at Shibley Smiles

Give yourself a Boost

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Boost Mobile. All opinions are 100% mine.

My oldest daughter, 19-year-old Amber, has had about six cell phones since she’s been old enough to have one at about the age of 14. For varying reasons she’s changed services or phone. Most recently, she and her godfather were looking for a provider that offers reliable, affordable coverage and service from her college campus.

The decided on Boost Mobile, which is popular for their no contract, prepaid unlimited, pay as you go phone plans. From what I’ve heard from them it seems like a convenient and reasonable service to have. Boost Mobile also has an easy way to add funds to customers’ accounts through what they call Re-Boost. Customers can “re-boost” their phones online, in person at a local store or over the phone using a debit or credit card. It’s that simple.

Boost is not only convenient, but it’s up to date as well. Boost Mobile has Blackberry with unlimited nationwide text, talk, web and email. These do-it-all phones are really popular especially with the ability to link you directly to your Twitter or Facebook accounts. Nowadays it’s important for a lot of people  to be able to connect to social media from their phones because they’re able to keep in immediate contact with friends and family. I know I haven’t gotten that advanced yet and I’m not sure if my daughter updates her Facebook account from her Boost Mobile, but just knowing it’s possible is cool for me. To make it even sweeter, Boost devices offer unlimited connectivity to Facebook for one price per month.

What about you, are you updating your social media from your phone?

Random Tuesday: wishes, tubes & stuff

Although it was difficult, I had a successful “Take the day off Birthday.” I watched a movie on Crackle (Haven’t heard of it? You can watch free television shows and movies – similar to Hula) and I laid down. Then I laid down and laid down. LOL… that about sums up my day. RP and the children gave me cards and even though Amareah (my middle daughter) spent the weekend with her day – along with her two siblings – she still remembered it was my birthday when I picked her up from school yesterday. So sweet.

DSCF5019 She says, “Mommy, Ms. Taylor said happy birthday.”

“She did?” Of course I sounded puzzled. “How did she know it’s my birthday?”

“I told her,” Amareah said. Such a sweet 5-year-old girl. The other two ages 6 and 3 forgot and, of course, my sweet baby girl (19-year-old Amber) called to wish her mother a happy birthday. She gave me my gift (LOTION/skin stuff! Woohooo!) when we visited her last weekend.

And I received so many well wishes via my comments here and on Facebook; that really made me feel good. Thank you to everyone who took the time to tell me Happy Birthday… I really appreciate it.

DSCF5201 On the bad side? 1)  It’s not my birthday today so back to work! LOL… not necessarily bad, I guess. 2) I took Anna to the ENT today and she has to get tubes in her ears. She’s had about eight ear infections this year alone so given her history and her hearing is mildly effected, the doctor recommends the tubes, which he let me put off last time to see if anything changed with her.

I’m a little bothered by it, but I think it’s the best thing for her at this point. And Amber hasn’t been feeling that great so I feel bad about that as well. I don’t like when my babies are sick and I can’t fix it. It’s natural, I know, but it’s still a little worrisome.

DSCF5230 In other news: I’m back on the get-organized track in the office. It was stalled a little when I won the fabulous storage bins from StacksAndStacks. Now, I have a desk I’d like to get rid of. The office contained three desks and now with the organizational system I don’t need/want it. I have it listed on the Atlanta Craigslist for $20. If you know of anyone in the area that can use it for something just tell them to get in touch with me. I’ll even taken $5 for it (that’s the special deep discount blog deal!).

CartoonStock.com image

image A lot of stuff: I need to get back on the health and weight loss journal bandwagon ‘cause I’ve gained a little weight back (of the 60 pounds that I’ve lost). I’m a bit disappointed, but I have no one to blame but myself. Well, I can blame RP ‘cause he likes to eat whatever whenever so… okay, no, I can’t blame anyone. LOL… I’ve been lazy and undisciplined and now my clothes are tight – or not fitting! – and that’s so unacceptable. Also, on the health front, I haven’t been feeling that great as of late so I’d really like to get to the doctor sometime soon and discuss what’s going on.

Well, I think you’re all caught up. I’m sure I’ve forgotten something, but I have to go and clean up in the office some more (I can’t wait to do the final reveal to you), put a load of laundry in and wash some dishes. Then I’m sure by the time I get all of that finished it’ll be time for the kids to get ready for bed.

I hope your week is going well so far. Leave me a comment and let me know what you have going on.

Check the mail

If you own a business, apartment complex or a multi-family housing unit then you may be in the market for Commercial Mailboxes or Apartment Mailboxes. JustCommercialMailboxes.com is the one-stop shop for mailboxes of this type. They carry cluster boxes, horizontal mailboxes, freestanding mail centers, vertical mailboxes, drop and multi-unit boxes, mail stations, kits, accessories and replacement parts. The online retailer guarantees that they have the lowest prices (the slim vertical collection box is just $139.33) and are touted as having the largest selection on the market as well as an expert customer service team that readily and professionally handles all customer-related matters. My birthday gift to myself: Take the day off!

image Yes, today is my birthday. I know I normally tell everyone at least a month or so in advance and look out for well wishes, but I guess I’m maturing (LOL) – so to speak – it just didn’t seem to be a big deal this year. Not making it a big deal made me realize that I need to make it a big deal at least for myself. So today, on my 42ND BIRTHDAY!!! (OMG), I’m going to relax.

I’ll have to use everything in my power not to blog, tweet or check email or anything, but I think I’m going to go low tech with a cell phone only day. And enjoy a movie, maybe a nap, read a book or do whatever I want that makes me happy. I don’t even have to get up today to take the kids to school because this was their weekend with their father.

And, in case you’re wondering, I didn’t write this post today. It’s Tuesday the 14th and I have my feet propped up on a kitchen chair while I work. I’m behind, overwhelmed, tired and stressed out so thinking about a day off is making me feel pretty darn good.

I’ll be back tomorrow (if I don’t decide to pack my kerchief and be a hobo!). Have a great day and a fabulous week.

Glimmer, shimmer & shine with Barbie {product review}

My memories of Barbie go back a long way – to the early 1970s when I enjoyed my own Barbies who had furniture, cars, dresses, shoes and a plethora of other accessories that I was spoiled to have. My Barbie even had some handmade clothes, which my grandmother made. Years later when my first daughter was old enough (she’s now 19) I passed some of those Barbie things on to her, and it wasn’t long before she caught the Barbie bug. There came more shoes, clothes, furniture, houses and accessories. Now my middle daughter, who’s 5, has her eyes set on all things Barbie. Especially since we watched the new DVD “Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale.”

I must admit I am as enthralled with the new Barbie DVD as Amareah is. This DVD takes you on a journey of fashion, friendship, family and fun. With the suspense of mystery, the beauty of fashion and a beautiful ending.

“Join Barbie in a colorful, modern-day fairytale filled with fashion, friends and fun. Barbie and her dog, Sequin, jet off to visit her aunt’s amazing fashion house in Paris, and much to her surprise it’s about to be shut down forever.  After she discovers three enchanting Flairies with sparkle-magic powers, Barbie comes up with a brilliant idea to save the business. She even inspires, Alice, a shy fashion designer, and together they create a dazzling runway fashion show. Barbie shows that magic happens when you believe in yourself.”

The DVD has been available in stores since September 14th and has an accompanying toy line that definitely brings the movie to life. I, thank goodness, have not told Amareah about the toys yet. I think maybe I’ll surprise her with them for Christmas, but don’t tell her.

I definitely recommend picking up a copy of the DVD for the little girl (or the big girl!) in your life… I promise, you’ll enjoy it. Check out Barbie.com for more information.

Disclosure: Thanks to Barbie and MomSelect I received the “Barbie, A Fashion Fairytale” free of charge to facilitate my review and that in no way influenced my opinions – those are my own. More information can be found in my complete disclosure policy.

Honored with a little loveliness

Peace of mind with TotalProtect Home Warranty

There are so many expenses when it comes to homeownership. In addition to the regular mortgage and utility payments, there are the expenses of keeping up the yard and outside of the home as well as maintaining the inside of the home. Even keeping the house clean can be a regular expense. So what do homeowners do when appliances, plumbing or heating/air systems need to be replaced?

Not many homeowners have a couple of hundred to a few thousand dollars laying around to replace much-needed systems. That’s why it’s a good idea to be prepared with the Total Protect Home Warranty, which will cover those unexpected repairs and expenses.

Homeowners can get a little peace of mind with the Total Protect Home Warranty.

I’m free & you can be too! {product review}

DSCF5239Last week was a rough week, but when I approached my front door on Friday after picking up the children I noticed a long cardboard box that had “Freedom Mop” written on it. A new cleaning tool? Oh yea, I thought, the evening is looking up.

I couldn’t resist opening it right away. I quickly read the directions, which are easy as pie*, and tackled my dirty, nasty kitchen floor. I just added super hot tap water and a little of some eco-friendly cleaner that I love and went to work. I did a little less than half of the kitchen floor, using two squirts for each up and back stroke, and I was extremely impressed. Look at how dirty my floor was. …

*All you have to do is remove the bottle, fill with cleaner, replace bottle and you’re ready to go.

How embarrassing, but you can see how well it cleaned. Don’t believe me? Look at what the reusable pad looked like before I used it:

I must say that out of all the similar products, Libman Freedom! Spray Mop is one I’m going to use for a long time. The name Freedom makes so much sense because it’s free from disposable pads, you’re free to choose your own cleaning solution and free from batteries! It even has a scratch-free microfiber pad. Another plus with the Freedom mop is that it works on multiple surfaces: wood and laminate, vinyl and linoleum, ceramic tile, marble and stone.

This mop will save you money and time. Now, that’s a combination and benefit that every person can appreciate. Check out Libman’s quick video about the Freedom mop.

Before you go, tell me what you use to clean your floors right now. Do you think you’ll try out Libman’s Freedom Spray Mop?

Disclosure: Thanks to Mom Bloggers Club I received a Libman Freedom Spray Mop free of charge to facilitate my review and that in no way influenced my opinions – those are my own. More information can be found in my complete disclosure policy.

Do you have an online resume?

Most people I know, whether they are actively seeking a job or not, have an online resume. In addition to those seeking employment, there are others who would like to get a better job to make more money or open themselves up for career advancement. Nowadays, in addition to having a resume online, people are using social media to market and network then directing those who they meet to their online resume.

On the other hand, employers are still searching Internet job sites in an effort to find qualified individuals. An employer doing the searching will use key words to find the right resumes. For instance, if they’re looking for writers (best to talk about something I know something about, right?) they may search for the keywords: journalist, editor, magazine articles, editorial, profiles or journalism. An employer looking for someone with a particular type of computer experience may add keywords that are relevant to the technical industry and those looking for graphic artists will search for specific software that mostly graphic artists and illustrators use.

Both employers, employees and job seekers use online resume for a different means. The one you most have to watch out for is the employer who is looking to see if current employees are actively seeking new employment.

Do you have an online resume? Are you actively seeking employment?

Finally… well, almost, all organized!

All of this time I have been wanting to get my home organized, functional and comfortable. It is a slow-going process, but I think slowly but surely I will get it in an order that I’m happy with. I’ve been in the process of reorganizing my office and I thought I was just about done when I won a fabulous Storage Box Organizer with eight plastic storage boxes from StacksAndStacks.com, the homewares place.

According to the site, it’s a organizational system that can be used in the garage – and I must admit it’s perfect for that – but I’m utilizing it in my home office. You can see I have it in the corner of the room. I’m actually getting rid of one of my three desks to make room for it and increase the space a little. I’m really excited about this development.

DSCF5234

I still have one bin that’s empty, but I’m sure I’ll have no problem filling it. The other bins contain crafting and scrapbooking supplies; pictures, frames and artwork; packing and mailing materials; large artwork and paintings by the children; my memories book that contains all of my journals (since 1979!), photos and yearbooks; and one has children’s learning computers, cards and puzzles.

Although I am in love with this system there is one thing that presented a minor difficulty. When assembling it you’ll need an electric screwdriver so had I been purchasing it myself I may not have gotten it. (I’ll keep my comments to myself about how I had an electric screwdriver that someone broke!) My BF did his best to get it assembled without the electric screwdriver, but I have to – and want to – get one to tighten up some areas and ensure it’s secure.

I’m surprised that it held up without all the screws, etc., in place. See:

DSCF5237There are a few areas like this, but it’s so sturdy that it’s not even moving with a few poles coming out. Once the other bolts/screws get into place I’ll really be in business. It is, however, securely bolted to the wall.

Thanks StacksAndStacks.com for giving me an organizing high; this is a great product and I’ll enjoy many years using it. Everyone stay tuned for more organizing news…

Have you been up to any organizing and cleaning lately?

Making the car connection

A lot of people, when they’re buying cars, consider car reviews before making their final decision. Whether they’re buying a mercury or a ford fusion hybrid, they want to get details they think a private seller or an unscrupulous salesperson may not disclose. Other information that car buyers are looking for is how much maintenance costs are for their chosen vehicle as well as getting a car insurance quote comparison.

In addition to major repairs, purchasing car insurance can be the most costly expense when one owns a vehicle. It only makes sense to ensure that all the information is found and considered instead of getting in over your head as far as expenses and responsibilities are concerned. So if you’re considering the purchase of a new car, truck, minivan or SUV take a moment and check out online reviews and, while you’re there, make a note on the car insurance comparison. It is definitely one way to reduce expenses, which a lot of people have done. And, keep in mind, car insurance is not an option, it is mandatory. Avoid getting a traffic citation for a violation or getting in an accident and getting a ticket for being uninsured by simply getting the needed insurance.

Discovering John Locke {book review}

About four days ago I wandered to my desk looking for a book to read among the “to be considered for review” pile. I pulled out “Saving Rachel,” a Donovan Creed Novel, by John Locke and almost immediately knew I wanted to read it by the description on the back cover:

“What if the best morning of your life suddenly turned into your worst nightmare? Sam Case is about to find out. Saving Rachel is the story of what happens when killers force a man to choose between his wife and his mistress… One of them must die… Who will it be? His wife? – or – His Mistress?”

Two days later I completed the book. Yup, it was that intriguing and it was a quick read.

Saving Rachel was nothing like I expected. It was unpredictable, exciting, intriguing and even a little scary. There was murder, mayhem, mystery … three of the things I enjoy most in the book. I wanted to find out what happened so bad at the end that I kept my eyes pried open long after I should have been asleep two nights in a row.

Truthfully, I don’t know what else to tell you without spoiling the story for you. Let’s just say there’s enough twists and surprises to keep your brows furrowed and your eyes darting across the page. You’ll want to find out who this Donovan Creed guy is (or maybe you’re not like me and don’t live under a rock). You’ll want to figure out who ordered the kidnapping. Where the money is coming from… and going. And who will be alive at the end.

Does that tell you anything? Probably not so you’ll have to get a copy for yourself. Believe me, it’s worth it.

And if you’re like me and not familiar with John Locke, you’ll want to pick up copies of his other books: Lethal People, Lethal Experiment and Now & Then.

Disclosure: I received a copy of Saving Rachel to facilitate my review, which in no way influenced my opinions – those are my own. No other compensation was received. Online tutoring for K through 12

When my oldest daughter was in high school she became sick between her sophomore and junior years. She missed almost the entire first half of her junior year and ended up having to drop her advanced classes. With the help of her understanding teachers, an at-home teacher and a tutor she was able to graduate on time.

Utilizing tutors was a new experience for her because she had never needed them in middle school when she was taking 4th grade math or 5th grade math. As she’s gotten older and realized the help that a tutor can provide she has no trouble taking advantage of it.

If you have a student having trouble in school with Adding fractions, Algebra 2, Formula for volume or Graphing linear equations it’s best to get them some assistance as early as possible.

My oldest is now in college and she continues to use the expertise of tutors when she needs them. It can be the difference between a pass and fail grade.

Our weekend with the teenager

I am really looking forward to this weekend because I am exhausted! The younger children will be with their father and I plan on getting some much-needed sleep. Last weekend I didn’t get much rest because the four of us (me and the threesome) went to visit Amber on her campus.

We left Friday afternoon, spent the night and came back late Saturday. Andre, Amareah and Anna really enjoyed spending time with their big sister. Anna had been asking if and when Amber was coming home, and I just wanted to spend some time with the teen while getting away from home. It was like a mini vacay.

Here are a few memories to share with you from our weekend with Amber.

That blow-up mattress must have been really comfortable because it didn’t take them long to pass out.

Amber suite sure is cold!   It is as cold as all get out in Amber’s suite!

DSCF5187 We all went with Amber so she could run a few errands. My daughter Amareah, who is not shown above, always runs ahead of everyone.

DSCF5188 Since they were her errands; she should drive, right?

Hanging out with big sister sure can be exhausting. Shopping and hanging out with big sis sure is tiring.

DSCF5190Poor Anna had started getting a fever.

I love the little accents Amber bought for her dorm suite, and she isn’t finished yet. She buys little things every now and then to make it comfy.

their personalities really shine through.
