Try Publix Deli Kid’s Meals #review

When I wrote this I was a mom with a toddler, two youngsters and a teenager and a lot of nights dinner was a rushed and last minute occasion. When I got the chance to review Publix Deli Kid’s Meals thanks to a BzzAgent campaign - #GotItFree - I put them to use one evening.

The best thing about these little meals is they're great for after-school snacks, light dinners, and lunch bag choices. When I searched my favorite Publix I couldn't find them. When I told the cashier what I was looking for she had someone go behind the deli counter to get some. Seems as if they run out pretty quickly or don’t make that many at a time.

Tonight (September 23, 2010), after a long day, I looked in the fridge and suddenly didn’t feel like preparing dinner. I asked the kids while holding one of the Publix Deli Kid’s Meals in my hand if they wanted it for dinner. Luckily, the decision was unanimous. I had bought two with chicken tenders and one with oven-roasted turkey.

The chicken tenders (two) come on honey wheat rolls and came with Yo-Kids Yogurt, Publix Snack Carrots, and an Apple and Eve Berry-Berry Fruitable Juice. The oven-roasted turkey was also on a honey wheat roll and came with apple slices (Amareah – left - gobbled up her sandwich. Anna, pictured below, is really enjoying that apple.) and grape pack, Craisins, and Horizon Organic 2% Milk.

The best thing about the Publix kids meal is that it is healthy, balanced and affordable at just $3.99. It was the perfect size for my 3, 5 and 6-year-old children and they enjoyed it. (Publix also has other choices including peanut butter on wheat roll and a peanut butter and green apple wrap.)

I asked my children if they liked them and my son said, “Terrific.” (I think I caught him by surprise when I snapped this picture!) The girls nodded in agreement. Amareah, the 5-year-old, said she liked the turkey sandwich better than the tenders (she tasted both), Andre really enjoyed the Craisins, and the apple slices and grape pack (well, just two grapes. Ah-hem) were a hit as well. The kids' meals are made fresh and are preservative free, which is a definite plus when it comes to making healthy choices for my children.

Have you tried the Publix Deli Kids Meals? If so, what did you think? If not, do you plan on trying them?
