No-Go BlogHer Blog Hop participation

I was peeking off and on at TweetDeck yesterday and monitoring my feeds or whatever they’re called when I saw @ToBeThode post about the No-Go BlogHer Blog Hop. Being the curious person that I am who is slightly disappointed by not being able to attend BlogHer, I clicked over to see what’s up.

image I found the official No-Go BlogHer Blog Hop blog post. After reading about it I decided that it would be fun to participate and get to know some new bloggy friends. The only thing I need to do is answer a few question, post the link and the link up from ToBeThode or Musings of a Marfan Mom, the other hostess.

So, if this is your first visit and you came via the No-Go BlogHer Blog Hop: Welcome. Grab a cup of something tasty, prop your feet up and stay awhile. For my returning friends and visitors, I am so happy you’ve stopped by again. Enjoy reading this post and please leave a comment about my post, what you’ll be doing during BlogHer and let me know where you’re blogging so I can visit you in return. Let’s get started:

1. When did you start blogging?

I began blogging in 2006 with a different blog called Single & Celibate (it’s actually still hanging out there and still occasionally gets readers and comments). I worked on that blog for about six months to a year. The reason I started was because I had been celibate for almost six years before I got married in 2002 and I really believed in the path I took. I originally started a series, of the same name, in my church newsletter that was well received. When I mentioned to someone that I wanted to write a book along the same topic they suggested I start a blog. My initial response? “A what?!”

DSCF4884 Eventually I became a little bored with that blog. It was too narrow for me. I like to write and share a little bit of everything that’s why this blog is called It’s a woman’s world! It’s everything that goes on in my world: things I’m interested in, things I experience, things I learn and, of course, it’s all of what I’d like to share with you. It’s a woman’s world began in May 2007 so it’s 3 years old just like my youngest child. (That’s her and I pictured here.)

2. Why did you start blogging?

I guess I somewhat answered that question in question one, but the reason I started this blog is because I like love to write. It’s in my blood. I really enjoy writing just about anything and sharing information with others. I’m a journalist by trade, but I’ve been writing creatively since I was about 10 years old. Blogging – especially with this blog – also began as a emotional healing process. That same year – in May of 2007 – I was eight months pregnant with my fourth child and recently separated from my husband. DSCF4555 My other children at the time were ages 2, 3 and 16 (That’s them in May of this year). To say that was an emotional and tough time is a major understatement. The ability to blog, when I could, was cathartic and the women bloggers who reached out to me were like my lifeline to the world. They were – and in many ways still are – my only friends.

My blogging friends are always here, always available, always loving and always consistent. Sure, their lives take over and the are MIA, but they never forget and never leave. Regardless of whether it’s an email or comment it’s a community and loving connection that has been one of the best experiences of my life.

3. What is one thing you are going to do this week that is WAY cooler than going to BlogHer?

This question makes me laugh because I have no idea what I’m doing that’s way cooler. I haven’t planned anything, but the main thing is going to be getting my two middle children ready for school, which begins on Monday. One is going into the first grade and one is going to kindergarten. I’ll also be helping my 19 year old prepare to go back to college next weekend. There’s shopping, packing and organizing for that two-hour trip. Then there’s the baby, my 3-year-old, she’ll be starting 3-year-old pre-K at the end of this month (where her brother and sister both attended) so she’ll need to get her little self ready for this new adventure. Finally, I’ll be spending time with my honey. Now, time with my honey – RP – is really way cooler than anything else I can think of. :-D

4. Share a post that you think says a lot about you or is your favorite.

Wow, this is a tough one. There are so many posts that I really like and that say a lot about me. So I’m going to choose three, with a little explanation or blurb, and ask you to tell me which one you like the best. If there’s a post that you’ve read here that you like better than the ones I’ve chosen, I would really love to hear what it is.

Live like a kid again – This is one I wrote recently. I like it because it was such an unexpected and joyful moment for me that I was almost overwhelmed with happiness. I also like it because it speaks to us all – especially women and moms – to remind us to simply take a comment for ourselves and do something enjoyable.

Weight & meds managementI chose this one because it’s apart of my fairly regular health and weight loss journal that I write. It explains the chronic illness I’m dealing with and talks about my weight loss. It also links to other posts on that subject as a refresher. It’s a bit long, but I think it’s true to my personality and apart of my life.

My nightstand – It was hard to decide on a post about a book or product review because those are two things that I love: I really love to read and I extra really love trying new products (especially skincare products). This gives a little idea of the book situation around here.

That about sums it up. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my No-Go BlogHer Blog Hop post. I look forward to reading your comments and coming by your blog. See you soon…
