Shopping for children

When you have children it can be tough to find the types of products you're looking for in the store. Either you can't find what you need, you don't have the time to shop or you're too tired to go bargain hunting. Well ShopWiki has taken some of that hassle out of the picture for you by compiling information from stores all over the Internet into one place.

For instance, I would love to purchase bikes for myself and the kids then get a bike trailer for the baby. I searched for one from ShopWiki's babies and toddlers buying guide and found several. There was even one for $19.99. Not only did I find about eight pages worth of what I was looking for, but I also found a great deal.

In addition to searching for the bike trailer, I also did a quick search for car seats because the baby needs a new forward facing one for her father's car. She's still in the infant carrier and she has reached 20 pounds so it's time she is facing forward in both vehicles. The problem with his car is that with the two other children -- both in car seats -- in the backseat there isn't much room to work with.

Whatever your baby and toddler needs are, don't forget to save yourself some legwork and check out ShopWiki.

I've been tagged

My good friend Tammy has tagged me with this meme.
Here are the RULES:
1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving comments on their blogs.
The seven facts about myself are...
1. I am surprised by some of my own feelings.
2. I hate to drive.
3. I have a lot in common with Tammy because my teen and I also share clothes.
4. I can crack my toes!
5. My nails grow long naturally.
6. There are more than 20 magazines in my "to be read pile."
7. I would love to live in Jamaica.
It is too late at night to think about who to tag, but I would love to see what all of my blogging BFFs have to say.

Get to walking!

Have you decided how you will show your support for the fight against breast cancer? If not, may I suggest that you join the Gal to Gal Foundation Walking For Wishes. It's just $5 to assist in raising $250,000 for the fight. So far, $53,993 has been raised, but I think we could do much better.

Before I go any further, let me assure you that this is not a paid post. I have decided that supporting Breast Cancer Awareness is a cause I should have gotten behind a long time ago so I have tried to do
several small things to make a difference, and this is just one of those things.

What prompted this post was when I recently clicked through to the Gal to Gal virtual walk site and saw that just over $50,000 had been raised. That's okay, but then I saw that Dorit Shapiro, the Gal to Gal president, lost her battle to Stage IV breast cancer just this week before she was able to see the goal realized. For some reason that pulled at my heart.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the goal could be reached in her honor? We have to pull together to make a difference. Come on... get to (virtual) walking - it's just $5.

(If you aren't sure what virtual walking is: You create a avatar that virtually walks for you. We are walking across America and are in Chicago, Illinois, right now. While walking you can click on the city trivia book and learn about where you are. ... I just walked pass the Lincoln Zoo.)

Perfect designer handbag

There are a couple of things that I can not resist (one of which I will keep to myself) and the other is what I call a nice purse, i.e., designer handbags . I found the perfect white Crown Royale shoulder bag by Kathy Van Zeeland at The bag has a magnetic snap under the logo flap with silver-studded hardware, plenty of pockets and embossed alligator trim. To die for, right?

This Crown Royale bag is my favorite because it has a classic look that can be dressed up or down. It has been awhile since I've owned a white bag and I think it would look hot with a pair of dark jeans, nice shirt and high-heeled sandals. That is what I call sexy.

The designer of this bag is pretty popular among handbag hogs so it would be a prize to get my hands on. I am sure you know how nice things can make you feel good so it doesn’t hurt to check out this site to see what they have for you too. Take a look and choose a designer handbag, or something else from the large selection, to treat yourself to or purchase one for someone on your holiday gift list.

Senior participation

My daughter has entered her senior year of high school with much excitement. She is trying to make up for last year (since she spent the entire year sick) and is participating in as much as she can.

A couple of weeks ago was Spirit Week and each day the kids were supposed to dress up for a different theme. Here are a few pictures of Amber during that week. The first picture is supposed to be Tacky Nerd Day. I told her she's too cute to be tacky and not really nerdy. She said she is wearing her glasses and has the little nerdy hairstyle, but her clothes were matching and very well fitted. We ended up calling her the New Millennium Nerd since being a nerd is now the "in" thing.

This day was called something like Era Day. Each grade was supposed to have a certain year that they dressed as. The problem was none of the students could remember their era so they just dressed in costumes that they wanted. Amber choose late 60s, early 70s. She had on platforms and bell bottoms. Of course she had to wear the shirt under the halter top to make it appropriate! :D

I can not remember what this day was called ... was it Theme Day. Amber was gonna be Cleopatra, but she couldn't wear the upper arm bands with the cape thingy and she didn't want to wear the beaded head piece that was absolutely fab. (I forgot to make her put it on for this photo.) This is what I wanted her to look like...
... but she said the neck thing was getting on her nerves...
She did wear this absolutely fab shoes although we laughed about it because in that time we're sure they wore Roman sandals or something...
This is how she went to school. She still looks absolutely cute, but I still wish she had worn all the gear to go with the outfit. When she came home she said everyone said that she and her boyfriend were talked about over the entire school. He was dressed in a toga and they were called the cutest couple. Their pictures is supposed to have made it into the yearbook. Kind of cool, huh?
Another day was Twin Day and she and her friend who lives in our neighborhood wore red polka dot dresses. The friend came by at the end of the day, but I was in a grumpy/tired mood and didn't think to take a picture. They even had their hair similar. I can't remember what the other day was.

Did you participate in these types of activities when you were a teenager? ... Seems like so much fun!

Fading rashes, changing waist lines, fuzzy brains

My health and weight loss journal

The nasty rash... Thank God that nasty rash (remember I told you?) that had threatened my very sanity is healing nicely. Was that too dramatic? It was hurting so badly and itching like crazy. What makes it even worse is that I had no idea where it came from. I talked with my children's daycare provider and she told me to get anti-itch cream with antibacterial stuff in it. That product worked like a charm. Now I am just hoping the scars from the rash will heal... I am attacking them with cocoa butter and wishing for the best.

The weight loss update... Okay, okay! I finally changed that stupid weight loss ticker. It's knocked up one pound because I can't seem to get anymore off right now. Well, actually, yesterday my scale said I was 174 and when I weighed myself today it said 170 again. I am sure the 170 is accurate because not only did I have a little feminine backup (I know! Ewwww!), but I had a little bathroom backup (yea, yea... yuck again!) too.

Yesterday I started the Sensa weight-loss program and I can't wait to see if there will be any results. I have a very sensitive sense of taste and smell so I could taste the product the first time I used it. Now I am adjusting to the taste and noticing the enhanced flavors of the food. I know you're wondering what Sensa is. Here is information taken directly from their site:

"Sensa is unlike any other weight-loss program. It is a 6-month system of Tastants that are sprinkled on your food to help you feel full faster, stay satisfied longer and lose weight. It is not a diet. You can continue to eat all your favorite foods and still lose weight. There are no prepackaged meals, stimulants, drugs or diuretics. It uses your senses of smell and taste to control appetite. Although many people think the feeling of hunger or fullness comes from your stomach – it is actually governed by the satiety center in your brain. When Sensa Tastants are sprinkled on food, it triggers this satiety center, so you feel satisfied with less food. It is scientifically proven. Sensa’s patent-pending technology was proven to be effective in one of the largest clinical studies ever conducted on a non-prescription weight-loss product."

During the next two to six months I will review Sensa, share my results and give my overall opinion of the product. Don't forget: If you want to try it with me the company has been so kind as to offer my readers a discount. Click here and use promotion code ROCKETXL to get 15 percent off of your order (of no minimum) and free ground shipping or go to TrySensa and enter the same code at checkout.

My overall health... I have been feeling a little out of sorts, but I think it is mostly the PMS that attacked me really good this month. PMS on top of fibromyalgia is often not very fun. Most months are okay as long as I manage the sugar and salt cravings. Well, this month I didn't so I am suffering more PMS symptoms, menstrual pain and fibro pain. All par for the course, I guess.
I am still waiting on the results of the ultrasound of my liver and will try to call later today to find out what the results are. I am assuming that since they haven't called then there isn't anything drastically wrong, but knowing the Veteran's Hospital and realizing that people make mistakes it's better to be proactive.

Other than that, and my fuzzy brain that made me post Wordless Wednesday on Tuesday, everything is pretty okay.

What are you going to wear?

Believe it or not we don't celebrate Halloween, but this year I have really been getting a kick out of everyone's Halloween posts and started checking out to see what type of costume I would choose for myself if I did dress up. They have a half devil, half angel costume that I thought represents me pretty well. For the longest time I said (and still do sometimes) that I have two personalities. One is the sweet Petula who doesn't everything right and never gets into trouble. And the other is Renee who is daring, a slight troublemaker and also likes adventure.

After searching a little bit longer I think the Spellbound Witch Sexy Halloween Costume is the best choice. To me it kind of ties the devil and angel up together because witches aren't necessarily bad, right? Can't you picture me dressed up like that? Even if I don't dress up for Halloween I can think of a couple of reasons to wear one of the sexy Halloween Costumes like this one. Like what, you ask? Oh... I am not telling any secrets. Renee is out to lunch and Petula says she's not telling.

For all of you Halloween lovers, what are you planning to wear?

Brain blur

Confusion by ParanoidGirl
I don't know what's going on inside of my mind besides the fact that I am not focusing too well. There's a headache that's lingering and threatening then there's the neck and back tension that isn't letting up.

It seems as if I posted my Wordless Wednesday even after looking at my calendar and seeing it's Tuesday. Then I was confused as to why I couldn't figure out my to-do list or what I was supposed to be doing. It's because I was trying to do
Wednesday's to-do list and Tuesdays errands...
Brain blur, brain dump, mind numbing... totally
no focus.
I hope I can be productive sometime
today and get some work done. *SIGH* Wish me luck!

The comforts of a private flight

Planning a plane trip that includes traveling with three small children is no small feat - especially if I have to travel alone with them. After I learned about Wing Aviation Charter Services, which is Houston’s premier luxury aircraft charter resource for personal and business travel, I was instantly thrown into a daydream of traveling carefree. I imagined booking a Baton Rouge air charter on the services' easy-to-use website.

With a simple click of your mouse you can learn about the service, its fleet, the aircraft available or request a quote for your one way, round trip or multiple stops trip. It's easy to select a large, super midsize, midsize or small cabin when you submit your quote request.

Utilizing a private charter has benefits that I would love to experience. I now have images in my head of traveling with my children where I can avoid check-in lines, layovers and delays while enjoying the comfort, personal service and convenience of the super midsize cabin of a private aircraft. Hey, a girl can dream, right? That would probably be the most relaxing travel experience I’d ever have.

With the charter service you can travel nationally or internationally... so where would your private flight take you?

Just thoughts

There are often times when I feel down about things going on in my life. There are a lot of times when someone else's actions affect how things pan out for me. I try to stay positive and hope for the best... it seems like as soon as I get a little ahead there is always something or someone waiting in the wings to make things go downhill.

Oh well, which seems to be my favorite saying lately, I have to get back up the hill and I'll try not to push anyone down as I struggle. Sound cynical? Mean? Realistic?

It's my reality. A reality that I hope turns a little dreamlike... a little wowlike. You know, a little "I finally did it!" ... know what I mean?

A comfy place to sleep

We are a family of five living in a three bedroom, one bath home, but we still like to have company every once in awhile. Instead of offering our guests the couch or one of the already occupied bedrooms, it would be nice to have a comfortable place for them to sleep even if it is in the living room.

Having an air mattress seems like a good alternative to our semi-comfortable couch. is a great place to find information on the best air bed. And after the guests have left I know my children would love camping out in the living room, during the weekends, on the air mattress and enjoy watching a movie while they fall asleep.

Mmmm... tasty!

I recently joined Pssst and I'm so glad that I did because I've received a great sample (Chex Mix® Bars) and some coupons to share of that as well as coupons for Pillsbury Thin and Classic Pizza Crusts.

Now, if you haven't tried the Chex Bars then you don't know what you're missing out on. It's surely is some tasty goodness. The Chex Mix® Bars are a combination of corn and wheat Chex cereal pieces with chocolate, peanuts and pretzels. All of my favorite things and they're less than 150 calories!

I really like making my own pizza so trying this out was perfect for me. I like to put healthy ingredients, like spinach, under the cheese so the kids are getting a treat and the nutrients they need. It really tastes good too.

Another good thing about using the pizza crust is that the kids can get in on the action and make their favorite pizza. All you have to do with this one is unroll the refrigerated dough, add favorite toppings and bake.

You can find it in your grocer’s refrigerated case and check out pizza recipes at

What's your favorite homemade pizza?

Monday's Muse - Ahhhh... passion

I think my muse today, and for the week, is passion. I looked up the word on and here is what it said:

1. any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate.
2. strong amorous feeling or desire; love; ardor.
3. strong sexual desire; lust.
4. an instance or experience of strong love or sexual desire.
5. a person toward whom one feels strong love or sexual desire.
6. a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything: a passion for music.
7. the object of such a fondness or desire: Accuracy became a passion with him.
8. an outburst of strong emotion or feeling: He suddenly broke into a passion of bitter words.
9. violent anger.

Passion by Paula Scaletta

My feelings are running the gamut of passion today and I'm sure it'll fuel me all week. What's your muse for this Monday? If you wanna participate check out Maternal Spark.

Oh, and look for more passion from me later this week. ;)
