Get to know Mel

Quite awhile back I stumbled across Mel in a Nutshell. I love her blog and she's become a great blogging friend. She's one of the sweetest women and has the sweetiest looking baby. And (drumroll please) she's holding another contest.

The last time she had a contest Carrie won 50 bucks. This time the prize is $20 (which I hope I win! :-]).

Drop by Mel's place and get to know her. Even if you don't want to enter the contest you'll make a cool blogging buddy.

Where is that coming from?

I have a very sensitive nose so I normally smell everything and anything. So when there's an unwelcome or unusual smell I'm the first to notice it.

The other day I arrive home from taking the two middle children to daycare, walk through the door and I am totally assaulted. It suddenly smells like mildew in here.

The smell is normally in the living room, but occasionally travels to my room, but no where in between. Not in the bathroom where one would expect a disturbing smell given our recent plumbing problem; not in the laundry room; not in the kitchen; not in the hallway... it's nowhere. I've searched (half-heartily actually 'cause I don't expect to find the source), I've sprayed, I've growled (no, that didn't do anything, but make the baby give me a curious look) and I've stood in the middle of the floor with my hands on my hips.

So where could it be coming from? And, most importantly, how do I find it and kill it? There's nothing worse than a nasty smell wafting through the front door as people come by. And it's not the most welcoming and comforting smell in the world.

Any hints, tips, tricks or mildew exorcists that you can recommend are greatly appreciated!

Pedal! Pedal!

My health and weight loss journal

Since it seems like my previous plan of cutting and counting calories has put me in a somewhat stagnant state I figured I needed to do something else. Or more of something, I guess I should say, especially since I fell off the wagon a little.

Quite some time ago I received an exercise bike from a freecycler. If you're not familiar with the term, let me explain: a freecyler is a member of Freecycle.org where you can post things (furniture, clothes, baby items, etc.) you are giving away and request things you are looking for. I had originally requested a treadmill, but when I went to pick it up I couldn't get it into my van and there was an exercise bike there that the freecycler said I could have as well.

My teenager and I struggled for quite sometime to get the bike into the van and home. I remember that I ended up being late to pick up the two middle children. When we finally had the time to look at it closely we realized it didn't have a power cord.

I contacted the person who had given it to me and she didn't have it. I went online in search of it, posted a request on Freecycle.org, inquired at Play It Again Sports and Radio Shack... but no luck. So she said she would hold onto the treadmill for me since I couldn't use the exercise bike.

Well, guess what? My best friend and my oldest daughter's godfather came to town last night and he was able to find a power cord that works for the bike! And I rode almost four miles tonight! I am so proud of myself.

Even though the bike is older it has a really nice programmable display that keeps track of calories burned, miles gone, heart rate and some other stuff... So, I really appreciate receiving it and being able to use it.

I hope this is the boost I need to get back on the wagon and begin losing weight again. Tomorrow my plan is to do yoga in the morning and, hopefully, get on the bike in the evening. One of the best things about it is it's the kind that you have to use your arms as well! It's quite a workout!

Here's to working out and getting in shape!

Plumbing scare!

Last night, right before I had to pick up my daughter's godfather from the airport, the toilet backed up when the washing machine drained. My initial reaction was anger because, if you remember, I just paid a plumber to come out and snake out the pipes because of a backup.

It was an unexpected expense after having the living room floor done and an absolute gigantic mess. Well, it seems like the problem has corrected itself -- hopefully. I've tried calling the plumber to let him know the problem, but his voicemail has been full. If he has to come back then he'll have to absorb the cost because it hasn't even been a full week.

Oh well, wish me luck!

My how she's grown!

It has only been 10 months since my baby girl -- my fourth child and third daughter -- was born. But she sure has changed. I think she looks the same, but her personality and individuality are definitely shining through.

I thought you'd enjoy going down memory lane with me...

This is little Miss Anna at about a month or so old. She was the cutest, tiniest thing... Actually I think she was (and is) longer than all the other children.

This is one of the first times she smiled while playing with her toys that hang on her bouncy chair, which she now refuses to sit in.

Oh my, what a big yawn. "I used to get so sleepy so quickly!"

She seemed so tiny sitting in her high chair and learning how to eat from a spoon at about 5 months.

She's graduated from this carrier style car seat to a regular rear-facing one.

At about 4 or 5 months old she spent most of her time laying down. "Ahhh, this is the life."

I like this one because she's wearing shoes that one of her big sisters wore. She's between 6-8 months old here.

Now, my 10-month-old big girl smiles for the camera as if she knows you're taking a picture of her.

"I eat from a spoon now like a pro and feed myself Cheerios!"

My how she's starting to look like a toddler. (BTW: There's the floor in the background that I was telling you about. No more carpet!)

All decked out in another outfit from her big sister.

My beautiful, happy baby!

Ut oh... wrong picture

I was looking at my old blog (I guess the reason isn't relevant) and noticed the picture I had posted there. It was the one below that I posted here not too long ago and said it was this past summer after I had the baby. Well, actually the caption on my other blog says, "A very pregnant me."

Not only do I feel silly, but I also feel a little relieved and dismayed. Relieved because I was thinking, "Boy, I was realy fat." And dismayed because I think I'm getting old. Actually, that's not why I'm dismayed, but in the process of writing this I forgot what I was going to say! LOL! (I thought you might get a kick out of that.)

Questions & Pictures Meme

I saw this one at Mom Knows Everything and I enjoyed reading Tammy's answers so much that I had to do it myself.

Here's what I had to do:

1. Go to http://www.photobucket.com/
2. Type in your answer to the question in the “search” box.
3. Use only the first page.
4. Insert the picture as your answer.

Easy, right? Here are my answers.

1) What is your relationship status?

2) What is your current mood?

3) Who is your favorite band/artist?

4) What is your favorite movie?

5) What kind of pet do you have?

6) Where do you live?

7) Where do you work?

8) What do you look like?

9) What do you drive?

10) What did you do last night?

11) What is your favorite TV show?

12) Describe yourself:

13) What did you do/are you doing today?

14) What is your name?
There was nothing with my name...

15) What is your favorite candy?

If you think you're up to it then I would love to see what you come up with... it was pretty fun (even more fun to look at all the photos).

Pounds & Inches vs. Food & Treats

My health and weight loss journal

I have a confession to make: I've gained a little weight. Only about two pounds... see at first I wasn't losing anything for a few weeks, but I could fit smaller sizes. So, I figured that I was losing inches and not pounds, which is fine with me but a little frustrating that the scale got stuck.

Then I started being a little bad. First I went back to drinking a cup of coffee (with raw sugar and creamer or condensed milk). Okay, let me be honest: I went back to drinking a MUG of coffee. Then all of a sudden I was drinking two mugs per day. Then I wasn't drinking as much water... then I wasn't working out as much and then there was this past week:

- Some Starbucks
- Two slices of cake
- Chocolate chip cookies
- Homemade chicken soft tacos (two nights!)
- A Blimpie's sub (okay, it was the combo but I got the low fat chips! Okay, I also had a root beer! Geez, are you happy now!?)
- 4 glasses of wine (not in one day!)
- Some chocolate kisses
- One of those large, fresh baked cookies from Publix
- Oh yea, I almost forgot the Coke and the half a tub of popcorn. SIGH!

So, as you can see, I fell off the wagon, but I'm back on today. Although I'm craving the coffee I haven't had any and drank my green & white tea with my breakfast. And I'll go back to treating myself about once a week unless it's Skinny Cow ice cream, which is the absolute best "health" food ever.

I also did 30 minutes of yoga today and yesterday, and I hope it warms up so I can go walking in the park sometime this week.

I'm glad I got that off my chest. It was a big secret weighing (excuse the pun!) me down. However, don't you dare say anything about my weight loss ticker... yes, it has went up a little, but that's only temporary. Now that you know I've been cheating you can keep me straight!

Wish me luck!

Oh, one more thing... here's a little encouragement for me: I've noticed that I look a little thinner in pictures so I guess I'm not doing too bad. Let me know what you think:

This was last summer... probably around August.

This was about a week ago... can you tell the difference from the pic above?

This was in September, I think...

And this was last week...

They looked so cute!

Just a few pics of the kids from Easter Sunday... I don't know why I have a problem getting all of my children in one picture together, but I do. When Amber was dressed all the other children were sleeping. Then Amareah woke up, but Andre and Anna were asleep. Then Anna was up, but I had already changed Amareah's clothes... uh, you get the point.

Here are my beautiful babies.

Amber has on a vintage dress (under the shirt) that I bought in the 1990s. I think it's cool that she likes to wear my old clothes and updates them with her style.

Andre is usually smiling in his pictures and I think he looks absolutely handsome (and like a big boy). This outfit is compliments of his grandmother.

Amareah and Anna have on similar dresses -- one is blue and one is green -- that also came from their grandmother. I love the little ballet shoes with them. Amareah is still tired from her nap, but she cooperated with getting her picture taken. Anna, of course, is already a little camera ham.

The pictures above were taken after we got home from church. This is how the children looked when I pulled into the driveway!

I feel so bad that Amareah doesn't have more support. She's in the carseat that is within the van's middle row.

I was so happy that the baby was asleep when we got home that I unbuckled the entire seat and put it in my room. It was a little difficult now that she's not in the carrier anymore, but I got about 30 minutes of quiet before she woke up.

Now, although I'm not as cute as the children, I thought you would like to see a pic of me as well. Yes, I'm pretty casual for Easter Sunday, but I figured that just getting dressed was better than not going at all. :-)

And check out my shoes! I think they're hot! LOL!
