Summer ends

Today, September 22, marks the first day of Fall. Since I moved to the South, about 12 years ago, the beginning of this season has been quite strange to me. The stores begin selling fall and winter clothes while most of us are still sporting sundresses and shorts, skipping around in sandals, hanging out at parks and driving around with the windows down and sunroofs open.

I've noticed that the mornings are cooler, but I refuse to put on a jacket. I'm not cold yet and I'm definitely not ready to make the transition from one season to another. Does this mean I'm resistant to change? Possibly. But I'd like to think that it's just because I want to enjoy my favorite season.

Although the colors of fall are beautiful -- the falling leaves and changing foliage -- I long for the brilliance of the summer sun that shines on the flowers and warms my skin. I'll slowly adjust to the changing weather, the need for heat instead of air conditioning and the necessity to slip on a jacket and a pair of socks. I'll cover up reluctantly and dream of next year when tank tops, shorts and sandals make an appearance again.

For now I'll enjoy the breeze on my skin and the crisp, dewy mornings thankful that I've lived another year to experience it.

Above, the view from the front of my house, you can see the leaves starting to fall into my driveway from the many trees surrounding my home.

Tell me:
What's your favorite season and what are you looking forward to this fall?
(I found some information here about the first day of Fall if you'd like to read it -- seemed kind of interesting.)
