Happy 4th of July

Holidays are a weird time for me. They're nice because I get a pause in my breakneck speed of taking people places, picking them up and doing everything on a certain schedule. But they're also a reminder of the fact that I don't have good friends or family nearby to spend the time with.

We were going to go over Amber's best friend's house for a cookout, which I was kind of looking forward to, but their plans changed. So, the only thing I can think to do that's free is take them to a nearby town's fireworks. It may not be as big and fancy as going to Centennial Park in downtown Atlanta, but it'll be something for them to do.

Going downtown is a major production. You have to get there early and pay for parking then walk forever while being jostled by tons of folks. The one time we went when my 3-year-old was a baby, I had to cover her ears because the fireworks were so loud. I must admit I wanted to cover my ears too! I'm sure they don't remember that and the baby has never been to fireworks so it could be fun for them.

I think I'll have to save up for a grill so the next holiday that rolls around at least we'll be able to cookout ourselves and enjoy something a little different.

Do you cookout on the 4th of July? Do you stay home or visit friends and families? Is there a family tradition you follow?

Whatever you did today, I hope you had a fun 4th of July celebration. Enjoy the long weekend.
