Travel to Texas

My teenage daughter announced today that she plans on taking off a week from work in July to visit her dad and the other side of her family in Texas. It's an exciting time for her with starting her first job (she's a junior counselor at a neighboring town's YMCA), attending her first prom, beginning her senior year and all the other monumental occasions that mark the beginning of young adulthood.

She's even discussing with her best friend what they will do for Spring break of their senior year, but I figured since she was going to Texas she may want to visit the Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas. This museum explores the art of the American West and has different collections including Western Art, American Indian Art, decorative arts as well as rare books and manuscripts. There are paintings, sculptures and prints from the 19th and 20th centuries that highlight the land, people and wildlife of the region.

The museum is owned and operated by the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation, which has the mission of the Stark Foundation is to improve the quality of life in Southeast Texas by encouraging, promoting and assisting education, the arts and health and human services.

Taking a trip to the Stark Museum of Art is a great educational and artsy adventure to explore with your family this summer. Visit their website and find out what you'll find at the museum during your trip to Orange, Texas. Maybe you'll see my teenager Amber there.
