Keep it icy and hot

Quite sometime ago, I was told that I had a little bit of rheumatoid arthritis at the base of my neck. I didn't think too much about it at the time because I wasn't having any problems. However the last few months or so I've had increased pain at the base of my neck and in my shoulders.

Right now, my life isn't exactly stress free so I initially assumed it was just tension. As it worsened with no relief during stretching and hot showers I remembered the arthritis diagnosis and have been hoping the medication I'm already taking for fibromyalgia (prescribed by a rheumatologist!) would help.

So, when I had the opportunity to sample the Extra Strength IcyHot Medicated Patch, I jumped at the chance. (SIDEBAR: I learned about the free sample at Freebies4Mom ... that blog is fabulous for money-saving tips and free offers.) The sample came from WalMart and I tried it right away.

Last night before I went to bed, I placed the large patch on my upper back across my shoulders and the base of my neck, and I immediately felt the intense icy cold. It's a surprising coldness that kind of numbs the area and then about a minute later the soothing "hotness" settles in. It's a little tingly, which can probably be attributed to the 5 percent of menthol.

When I awoke this morning the patch was still in place and my shoulders and neck felt great. I wish I had another patch to use right now because hovering over a laptop all day can cause quite a pain in the neck.

I'll definitely use this product again and recommend it for anyone with pain that can be relieved with a little (BIG) IcyHot!
