A few days ago I received a sample packet of Berry Burst Metamucil. This is the first time I've tried the product, but I remember when I was a teenager and my mom was the age I am now (wow!) that she drank Metamucil on a fairly regular basis. Supposedly, the formula/texture has changed since then so I had no qualms about trying it.

Metamucil includes psyllium fiber, which has been clinically proven to lower cholesterol. That, and a heart-health claim, have been approved by the US FDA. Since it was discovered that my cholesterol is a little high I also thought it was good to try it and find out if it's something that I can add to my regimen.

I poured the packet into the cup and added the eight ounces of water. I took a swig and gagged. It wasn't the taste; it was the grainy, pasty-type feeling like something had just clogged my throat. I added more water, stirred again and continued to drink. Although I don't like the Berry Burst that much (personal preference, I'm sure) that wasn't what got me. It was the feel of it in my mouth and going down my throat.

In a word: Yuck!

My mother says Metamucil also makes some type of wafer that's pretty good so maybe I'll try that. As for the Berry Burst Metamucil powder... I think I'll pass.
