Visit to the doctor


My weight loss journal - Day 2

I had my follow-up appointment yesterday and I guess it went well - for lack of a better word. First of all, let me say that I've changed my weight-loss goal. I now what to lose 50 pounds. Why? You're probably asking. Because I gained three pounds in a week. Now I don't care about it being the holiday season and all of that. That's just ridiculous. What if I gained three pounds a week through January. That could possibly be more than 20 pounds by the end of January!

The madness has to stop now!

So, 50 pounds it is.

Well, as far as my blood tests are concerned I'm being referred to rheumatology. AARGH! And... [insert dramatic, scary music here!] my cholesterol is a little high. Total cholesterol is 214 (should be no higher than 199) and LDL is 135 (shouldn't be any higher than 99).

I was really surprised by this. It was the last thing I suspected because out of everyone I know, in general, I eat fairly well. Wheat, soy, no beef or pork, etc. Well, I guess it could be the daily chocolate I've had over the past couple of months! An-t-way, so that not only means trying to eat healthier to lose weight, but eliminating certain things to reduce my cholesterol. Please tell me why chocolate and cheese are on the list!

I can deal with no dairy -- for the most part -- but cheese? CHEESE?!?! And, let me not even get to talking about chocolate! Especially since I discovered the pleasures of dark chocolate.

Oh, about the blood test, my alkaline Phosphatase is also high, but I have no idea what that is. She may have said, but I've forgotten and now must look it up.

The plan is healthy eating and increased activity. You'll be proud to know that I did about 30 minutes of flexibility and strength training yesterday as well as dancing with the teenager to Beyonce's song. I listened to her entire CD yesterday for the first time and I have officially ended by hate Beyonce stance. (It wasn't her music that I was hating on!) Her CD will be my daily dance out routine.
