If you’re familiar with O magazine then you know they normally run a page of quotes that follow a general them. In the August magazine, the quote at the top of the page is:

“There is always time for a nap.” Suzy Becker

I showed that to my 16-year-old daughter and she said, “Exactly!” She had risen up on her high horse. Not because she always practices resting and taking a nap, but because she knows that the excuse I often use for not napping is: “I don’t have time.” Despite the fact that I average anywhere from one to five hours of sleep every night and that I am terribly sleep deprived; there is still no time for a nap.

Come on, what mom do you know that has time for a nap? I have an infant, a toddler, a preschooler (I just figured out that my almost 4-year-old is not a toddler anymore!) and a teenager. A run a home and try to run a freelance writing and editing career. I also try to fit in exercise, housework, car maintenance, doctor’s appointments (for every single member of the family), yard work, paperwork (you know the never-ending pile of mail and bills and junk) along with calls to close family and friends. No where in there do I see time for a nap.

Well, I’ve come to realize that I’m missing the point. There really isn’t time for a nap; however, I should make time for a nap. So, I think Suzy Becker is mistaken. She should of said, “You should always make time for a nap!”

Now I can live with that. Okay, I gotta go finish organizing the paperwork on my desk, put the clothes away in my bedroom, clean off the top of the fridge, maybe wash the sheets on my bed and watch a movie. That’s all before my two middle children return home.
Maybe I’ll make time for a nap tomorrow!
